ROBERT JEWETT HUNTRESS

Huntress, Robert Jewett Of Hingham, 86 years of age, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. He was a prominent architect with the firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott of Boston for forty years before his retirement. Mr. Huntress was born in Lynn and raised in Melrose. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1945, Harvard University in 1951, and Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1954. Mr. Huntress had lived in Hingham since 1958. He was an accomplished pianist. During the latter part of W.W.II, he served with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed traveling, working outdoors, and reading; particularly science fiction. He was the beloved husband of Annabel Ayer Huntress and the devoted father of Bradford Ayer Huntress, partner with Kevin Shancady of Concord and David Shattuck Huntress, husband to Heather Huntress of Halifax. Robert was the loving grandfather of Adam and Hailey Huntress of Halifax. He was the brother of the late Carol Huntress Tarr formerly of Madison, Wisconsin who passed away this past October. He is also survived by his niece, Kendall Susan Inglese of Lynnfield and his nephew, Bryant Tarr of the Crane Foundation in Wisconsin. A private funeral service will be held at the High Street Cemetery, Hingham on Saturday, January 11th.
