Gertrude Asmussen Obituary

Of Reading, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Harborside-Cedar Glen in Danvers. She was 82 years old. Trudy was born in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. She went on to receive her American National Red Cross Special Services Certificate as a Nurse's Aide. She lived in Reading for 54 years and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Reading of which she belonged to the Women's Club. Trudy worked for Jordan Marsh from 1967 until her retirement in 1985. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years, as well as a long standing member of Priscilla Chapter #52 Order of Eastern Star. Trudy was the beloved wife of the late Frederick A. Asmussen. Loving mother of Gayle Spofford and her husband David of Kennebunk, ME, Frederick A. Asmussen, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Middleboro, Beth Moulton of Mansfield, Bruce Asmussen and his wife Robin of Wilmington and June Asmussen & partner Jan Crowley of Wilmington, and Jan Racine and her husband Rich of Londonderry, NH. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren. Sister of the late James and Paul Thompson and also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) READING on Monday, May 12 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11. Burial is private. I,m so sorry to hear about your mom,s passing .I have fond memories of her .I remember coming in after being out in the cold playing and she would make us the best hot cocoa. I hope the nice memories you have comfort you at this time .My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family .
