Virginia Swonger Obituary

Virginia L. Swonger
age 82, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Canton, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011. She was born on May 11, 1928, in Canton, to the late Charles and Hazel Goss. Virginia enjoyed crafts, writing poetry and collecting family pictures. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family that she so dearly loved. Virginia was the stronghold of her family who inspired them to do more and be more in this life, just by her example. She was the epitome of love, selflessness and devotion to family. Virginia had a heart of gold that will be missed by all who loved and knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Nancy Lee Swonger, Gail Ann Swonger and Roger Keith Swonger; two brothers, Earl and Ernie Goss; and sister, Linda Byers.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph E. Swonger, Sr.; five children, Ralph E. Swonger, Jr. of Canton, Cynthia L. Snyder of Canton, Terry A. (Brenda) Swonger of Massillon, Cathy J. (Bernard) Baughman of Canton and Robert K. Swonger of Canton; five grandchildren, Victor (Darletta) Swonger, Raymond Swonger, Roger (Yvette) Swonger, Jr., Bernard (Kelly) Baughman, Jr. and Ginny Baughman; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie, Lauryn, Khyrstyn, Roger, Nicholas, Cameron, Alyssa and Gabrielle; brother, Lester (Kitty) Goss of Florida; sister, Marlene Boni of North Canton; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Steve Nam for his outstanding care and support that he so graciously gave - his kindness will not be forgotten. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Kun Nam and Dr. Paulowski for their wonderful care and kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Pastor Lisa L. Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the funeral home. Those wishing to send their condolences or share a fond memory may sign the Reed Online Guestbook at

To Ralph and the entire Swonger Family.
Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of your Mother. She will remain in our prayer as she was surely an Angel, and has joined God in his holy army. Ralph, all of us at the Law Office, David, Cindy, and myself feel your loss.

Grandma Swonger,

You are the kindest, most gentle lady that I ever knew. I will never forget you and all the fun times we had. Especially the day we were giggling and eating Reese cups! And the time you and Grandpa Swonger helped me clean up pine needles from the Christmas tree for what seemed like hours and hours! I also remember how excited you were when Roger Jr. was going to be your very first grandchild! and...the day you handled things just perfectly when Nicky bumped his head on the overhead light!!! and how you were excited when you asked me if you could call Gabby, Abby!!!
Love and prayers to you Always!

Ginny was my cousin and, although I didn't know her well because of our age difference, I mourn her passing. May God be with the family. My prayers are with you.
