Richard Benfer Obituary



Richard K. Benfer, Sr. was born November 4, 1932 in Baltimore, MD to Rudolph H. and Dorothy M Benfer (nee Pick) . A resident of Glen Burnie for 56 years, Mr. Benfer was a business machine repairman during his working life. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed Woodworking, Reading, Fishing, Boxing, The Orioles, Beer and the great outdoors. In addition to his parents Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 Years Claudette C. Benfer (nee Phelps), his brother Rudolph H. Benfer, Jr. and sister Dorothea Klein. He is survived by his sons Richard K. Benfer, Jr. of Severna Park, Thomas D. O'Donnell of Bowie, Steven P. O'Donnell of York, PA, and daughters Janice C. Johnson of Annapolis and Diane L. McHugh of Pasadena. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Mr. Benfer passed away at the Hospice of the Chesapeake inpatient center surrounded by his loving family. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Hospice of the Chesapeake. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, 421 Crain Hwy., S.E., Glen Burnie on Wed. from 5-7 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M. Inurnment in Crownsville MD Vet. Cemetery.
