Memories and Condolences
for James Ridlen

Not sure what to say?

July 20, 2011

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Ridlen family on the passing of Dr. Ridlen. Joyce and I became patients of his after my father retired from dentistry and remained patients of his until his somewhat sudden retirement. We hope the hibicus seeds Joyce gave Dr. Ridlen that came from our plants sprouted and produced the beautiful blooms that our hibiscus have.

Aunt Dolores, cousins Cindy & Jimmy,
I was deeply saddened to hear of uncle Jim's passing. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. I too remember all of the great times we enjoyed at your house in the summers past. Dad loved and admired his big brother so much. I know that dad was never happier than when he was spending time with his big brother. Uncle Jim would make fun of the way we Bostonians talked and he would laugh. Boy, could he laugh. I recall the family bar-b-ques at your house with dad and uncle Jim in thier aprons and chef's hats. Trying to get a game of pool in downstairs was next to impossible when dad & uncle Jim were on the table. I believe we walked to uncle Jim's office sometimes for a check-up. So many special memories. You and uncle Jim made our short yearly visits feel so welcome. We really looked forward to our annual trips to Illinois. Uncle Jim flew out for my wedding. I appreciated that, but I knew it was more for dad. Uncle Jim also came out when we laid dad to rest. It was so nice to see my dad's brother in our time of sorrow. May God Bless you and may you find peace in Him who loves you.

I remember well my visits throughout the 70's to "the dentist's office". Sitting in his waiting room looking through the Highlights magazine and just knowing I was going to be in pain soon. The pain never came, and my mom would always take me and brother over to Sauerberg's afterwords for ice cream. Dr. Ridlen was my dentist until he retired and I will always remember these trips (once I got to highschool the ice cream stopped, unfortunately). My sincere condolences to the family-my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Uncle Jim. I have wonderful memories of our trips out to visit my dad's family. you all made us feel so welcomed and loved. I think of those trips often and it makes me smile. I think some of the happiest times of my dads life were spent with his brother and his wonderful family. Uncle Jim had an infectious laugh that I can still hear when I think back to those times. We love you and I pray for peace for all of you. With love Pattie Ridlen-Ricciardi Halifax, MA

Dr Ridlen was our instructor in the late 60's. He was a friend of my father Curt Gronner too. I cut class the day after my 21st birthday. I don't think anyone else noticed but Jim. He didn't write me up, but it was a good joke over the years when we would meet a various functions. My sympathies. I hope Dad and Jim can discuss dental politics to their hearts' contents. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have fond memories of driving out to visit with my Dad in the summers years ago. I remember going to see Uncle Jim, so he could check my teeth so I would not be afraid of the dentists back at home, the family cookouts, trips to Brookfield Zoo and the amusement park. I remember sitting at the kitchen counter having lunch with everyone, playing in the beautiful back yard, and the game room. There was always love and laughter, Uncle Jim will surely be missed. My love to you all.
