Tabitha POPPLEWELL Obituary

POPPLEWELL

Tabitha Fields, age 97 of Old Saybrook, CT, passed away on June 14, 2011. Tabitha was born in Hazard, Kentucky on August 12, 1913 to the late George and Elizabeth Macintosh Fields. Tabitha was known to her friends, family and co-workers as "Babe", a feisty, plain-speaking, hard-working woman. She loved being surrounded by her loved ones and was delighted last year when she became the oldest of 5 living generations of her family. For the last many years she divided her time between her daughter Wilma in Texas, her daughter Loretta and son David in Cincinnati, and her granddaughter Beth in Connecticut. While in Houston, she volunteered at Memorial Hospital and Memorial Assistance Ministry (MAM), and she worked as a receptionist for her granddaughter Beth until she was 94. She always attributed her own longevity to hard work and no doctors. Although she was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago, she took her chemotherapy like a trooper, and was only ill for the last few days of her life. Red was her favorite color. Tabitha is survived by her daughters Loretta Barrow of Cincinnati, OH; Wilma (and husband David) Noble of Houston, TX; her son David (and wife Patricia) Popplewell of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren Elizabeth Eden of Old Saybrook, CT, Hugh Bradley Eden, Robert Eden, Carolyn Sarver, and Kimberly Staff, all of Cincinnati, OH, Cynthia Noble Allen of Bristol, England, Jennifer Noble of Houston, TX, Thomas Popplewell, and Kathleen Popplewell, both of Cincinnati, OH as well as 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, William Eden, 15 months. Besides her parents, Tabitha was predeceased by her husband Hugh Chester Popplewell, and her grandson Michael Noble of Houston, TX. The family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of sending flowers. A visitation will take place on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00 am at The Lockland Christian Church in Lockland, Ohio followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Swan Funeral Home of Old Saybrook, CT is charged with services.

Dear Beth,
It has been a long time since I have seen or talked with you and your family. Just wanted you to know how sorry I am for the loss of your grandmother. I know that you were very close to her. We have lost both of our grandmothers and they are missed daily. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Cousins, Aunt Babe will be missed by all who knew her. I was lucky to have the best Aunts ever. I had not seen her for many years, but I remember her like it was yesterday. RIP Aunt Babe----you will be in my thoughts forever. Cousins, you were blessed to have a wonderful Mother like her. My prayers are with you all. Paul Wells and Boys.
