SCHMIDT

Thomas Joseph Schmidt, 48, of Wilder, KY passed away on July 1, 2014 in LaFollette, TN. Tom was a financial advisor for UBS, Cincinnati. He was very active in sports at both Newport Catholic High School (1983 graduate) and St. Francis College (1987 graduate) in Ft. Wayne, IN., and he was an advisor to the Diocesan Priests Retirement Fund and basketball coach for his son and daughters at St. Joseph School, Cold Spring, KY. Tom was very passionate about his family and friends and was well loved by all. Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife Vira (nee: Bartel) Schmidt, daughters Lindsey and Elena Schmidt and son Derek Schmidt all of Wilder, KY; his parents Hank and Pat Schmidt of Cold Spring, KY, his sister Nancy Grant of Highland Height, KY and his brother Michael Schmidt of Cold Spring, KY; and also many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, July 7th, from 4:00-7:00 pm at St. Joseph Church, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, July 8th, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church. Burial St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas, KY. The Dobbling, Muehlenkamp & Erschell Funeral Home is serving the Family. I am deeply saddened to hear to Tom's passing. I have many fond memories of him at our Gradison days. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the Schmidt family.

Words cannot express our sadness in the loss of Tom. Working with Hank and Tom at Gradison was a joyful experience. Since I was old enough to be his mother, Tom loved to tease and say outrageous things just to see my reaction -- but always in a loving way. I can still hear his laughter! Later, as our financial advisor, we always felt secure in the way he handled our account. We will miss him greatly. Our deepest sympathy to Hank, Patty, Vira , Derek, Lindsey, Elena, and the extended Schmidt and Bartel family. You are in our hearts and prayers. May the wonderful memories of him give you peace and comfort in the days ahead.

I'll never forget the first time we met Tom as he walked over to our driveway, sat down, and started chatting like we were old friends. He was always that way...kind, fun, and friendly. Also, so very proud of and loving with his family. We were lucky to have known him as a neighbor and friend. My heart breaks for Vira, Elena, Lindsey, Derek, his parents, and all of his family. Tom was one of those guys that always had a smile on his face and a warm hug for a friend. I enjoyed so many camp outs, parties and fun times with Tom 'back in the day' of high school and college - summer fun at it's best. Time and distance does nothing to friendships that were of our childhood....those are truly embedded in my heart, as is that of the friendship between Patty and my mom, Mr. Schmidt and my dad.
