Pat Fogarty Obituary

Pat Fogarty

(Patrick

Franklin)

Asheville - Pat Fogarty (Patrick Franklin) passed away on Tuesday afternoon of the 28th of May 2013.

Pat loved life, and life loved him. He valued friends and friendship, and they in turn valued him. He loved hunting, yet respected and adored animals (or they adored him, we will never know). Pat was a man of many humane qualities, and of a rare and acute intelligence, but his biggest quality was his immense heart - a heart filled with compassion and empathy. He didn't use duty and honor as a punch line, but as guiding principles, and he always seemed to find the good in everyone. Since May 28, everyone who heard of Pat's passing and talked to us has had a warm memory, a joke, or an anecdote about him. Most of them were sad, yet smiled while remembering him.

It is often said that the bonds that link a true family are not ones of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Pat's life certainly proved that. Though our hearts are heavy, our tears are still running, and our thoughts are clouded by thick memories, we celebrate a life well lived and well loved; we celebrate a good man, a great friend, and an even better father.

Pat is survived by his daughter, Patricia; his son-in-law, Rochdi; and his daughter-in-law, Denise. A memorial will be held on June 15 at 11:00 AM at Lake Julian. We ask that any donation should be made to Four Seasons Elizabeth House Hospice Care, where their excellent care helped Pat spend his last days in peace and comfort. Donations can be made to: 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731, or at: www.fourseasonscfl.org/donate/ways-to-give/

Pat was a good, close friend and I'm going to miss him. I hope he and Randy, John, Bruce are talking away all the hours right now. I've never had a friend who was more of an individual than Pat. Rest in Peace, Brother.
