Doris Johnson Mize

Fairfield, CA

Doris Johnson Mize passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013, in Fairfield, California. Doris and her twin sister were born in Morton, Mississippi on September 21, 1927. She attended school in Morton and was a graduate of Hinds Jr. College and Louisiana State University. She obtained her certification in interior design from Bakersfield Community College, in Bakersfield, California, and enjoyed many years in that profession.

On September 5, 1952, she married Frank W. Mize and they enjoyed 60 years together. Frank was in the oil business which allowed them to travel to many places.

Doris was a member of Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship, Open Book Club, PEO Sisterhood, Green Valley Country Club and often worked as a volunteer at Mission Solano. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, sports, Bible study, bridge, exercise classes, music and cooking.

Doris is survived by her husband, Frank Mize; sister, Lois Powell; sister-in-law, Louise Spann; a number of nieces and nephews; and her cousin, Patricia Fell. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward Johnson, Sr. and Hettie Mae Long Johnson; brothers, Roy Johnson, Floyd Johnson, Aldewin Johnson, John Edward Johnson, Jr., Fred Johnson and Robert (Bobby) Johnson; sisters, Irma Turner, Ruby Senseman, Dorothy Laseter (her twin sister), and Ann Donovan. She leaves behind and recognizes with special love and gratitude, her friends at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship, Chapter R.R. PEO Sisters, and Open Book Club members. She also leaves behind many friends in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

There will be a memorial service for Doris Mize on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship with Dr. Larry Vilardo presiding. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church site. Bryan Braker is overseeing all funeral arrangements. Following the memorial services, all are invited to remain for a reception time.

Additionally, a memorial service will be held in Morton, Mississippi on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Wolf Funeral Services, Morton, MS. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Glazier. Burial will follow the service at the Morton City Cemetery.

Doris wishes to thank all those who assisted her in her final illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship Building Fund, 4177-A Suisun Valley Rd., Suisun City, CA 94585, or to Morton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 519, Morton, MS 39117.

I remember when Doris and frank were active members of Parkway Heights United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. She was a true Southern Bell, beautiful inside and out. Our prayers for Frank and family.
