Just being with her for four days when we were 14-15 years old, and communicating by letters on a few occasions, this says how memorable she was.

Susan was so beautiful, not only in physical appearance, but also in her awareness of others.
These memories has last over 60 years, that should tell anyone what she meant to me,

I only knew her for five days at Camp Carson in Newport, TN in the summer of 1960. I thought she was so beautiful and I loved her as a 15 year old youth. I saw her once more when I was 18 years old when I passed by the Village Motel of which her Father owned and had a conversation with her for approximately two hours. What a beautiful heavenly soul she has made. Unforgettable!

Will, Nick, and Alex,
Our hearts are just broken for all of you, as well as for your precious dad. Your mother was truly one of the dearest, kindest, sweetest, most gracious ladies I have ever known. I am flooded of memories of such happy times with her, from the soccer field, Covenant, Jackson Academy, Band Trips and fundraisers, to countless hours of volunteer work! She always gave straight from her heart with such great joy and love for her Lord! What a privilege to have known her, and to have the assurance that we'll be with her again in Glory! Such a beautiful legacy she leaves for her grandchildren!
Much love to you boys, who were the light of her life.

Our thoughts and prayers to the Mayfield family. My sister, father, and I were all patients of Dr. Mayfield. He was my ophthalmologist while I was in medical school and internship before moving out of state for residency. Dr. Mayfield is a kind hearted wonderful man who always spoke lovingly of his wife and family. May God give him and his family strength, comfort, support in this difficult time and surround them with loving care.

Our memories of them are fond--very humble and unassuming and so kind. Our prayers for God's grace and loving comfort to all the Mayfield family.

Heartfelt sympathy to Susan's family. Susan and I went to school together from grades 1-4, then high school 9-12. We parted ways to go to college and I didn't see her again. I remember her as being quiet, sweet, charming and so very beautiful. I loved her father who was one of our teachers. The last time I saw her was at our high school reunion 5 yrs ago and she was still beautiful and I enjoyed talking to her. My prayer is that you all will be comforted through this difficult time. There are no words to help now, but know that she was so deeply and truly loved by so many. Sincerely Anita (Ann Smith) Miller.

My heart is aching for Bill and the rest of the family. Susan was an angel on earth; everyone who knew her adored her. I had the pleasure of working with Bill and Susan back in the 80's to design the house plans for their home on St. Andrew's. I don't think I have ever dealt with a couple who were in such accord with one another, respectful and loving at all times. Subsequent contact with them over the years revealed that their devotion to one another had only increased with time. I cannot imagine the grief that Bill and the rest of the family are experiencing, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dr. Mayfield and Family: I am so sorry to hear about this heart-breaking tragedy. My father, brother, husband and I all were patients of yours and so you are a big part of our family as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. And if you need anything ever, please, please do not hesitate to call. With deepest sympathy,

May 2, 2014

My heart grieves with great sadness for all. Our two sons played soccer with the two older boys. My husband coached the middle son. I remember the youngest son being brought to the games in a stroller. I also remember the beautiful roses that Dr. Mayfield brought to his office. They were such perfect specimens and had been nurtured by both of them. Susan is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I pray fervently for the sons, their wives, their grandchildren. And I pray most fervently for Dr. William Mayfield. A kinder, gentler man has never been born.

May 2, 2014

Please except my deep condolences. Death of a love one is the hardest thing we can go through, because we are never prepared for it so I hope you find some comfort in knowing sickness, pain and death will one day be no more for this has been promised to us.

Our hearts are heavy as we keep this wonderful family in our hearts and prayers.
