FREDERIC FARRELL Obituary

ColONEL Frederic M. Farrell, 90, Ret. US Army, passed away December 13, 2014 peacefully at his home. Fred joined the U.S. Army during World War II, served with distinction and retired as a full Colonel. He graduated from The University of Memphis Law School (formerly Southern Law School). He worked as the West Tennessee Estate Tax Assessor until retirement. Fred was a member of Windyke and Forest Hill Irene country clubs. Fred was a charter member of the YMCA, a regular at the Walker Ave. YMCA for decades and on the YMCA board. Everyone there got at least one Tootsie Roll Pop from Fred. He was also a member of the Memphis Tiger Baseball Board. He selflessly worked with the Goodfellows for many years. He was also a member of University Lodge, #722 Masons, Memphis, TN. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jennie Ruth Farrell. They tirelessly worked together at the Liberty Bowl Stadium for many years. He is survived by three daughters and one son: Ruth Stewart, Becky Cooper, Janice Zdancewicz (Mike), Mike Farrell (Alise). He was blessed with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank his caregivers: Annie Bowling, Barbara Bowman, Barbara Heard, Millie Houston and Melissa McGee for providing wonderful care and comfort to our dear Pappa. Fred has donated his body to UT Science. A private family memorial will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, YMCA or a charity of your choice.
