Louis Gladstone Obituary

Gladstone, Louis I.
Louis I. Gladstone, age 88 of Fairfield, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his family by his side. A memorial service was held on Tuesday at The Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home in Fairfield. Mr. Gladstone was born in Bridgeport, a son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Derman) Gladstone, and was raised in the Hollow section of Bridgeport.
He attended Central High School, the University of Bridgeport, the University of Connecticut, and New York University Law School, earning a law degree at the latter. He was a member of the Connecticut Bar and the Bridgeport Bar Associations and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB-42 during World War II.
Mr. Gladstone served on the City Council of Bridgeport, first elected in 1955, serving as Minority Leader. He was elected to the State Senate in 1958 while still serving on the Common Council, as President. In the State Senate, he served on the Public Utilities Commission and the Cities, Boroughs, Roads and Bridges Committee. During his time in the State Senate, he served a term as Majority Leader and also served as Comptroller of Connecticut from 1967 to 1970. Mr. Gladstone was a founding member of Lafayette Bank and Trust Company of Bridgeport. He practiced Law in Connecticut for 50 years at Gladstone, Schwartz, Baroff, Blum and Woods located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
He married (the late) Joan (Rockey) Gladstone of Fairfield, and has three children; Maren Maor of Atlanta Georgia, Cassy Clausson of the United Kingdom and Jason Gladstone of Fairfield. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister, Vivienne Moorin of Louisville, Kentucky, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mr. Gladstone is survived by his loving wife Ruta Gladstone of 25 years, and her children; Holly Lorenzo and Daniel Lorenzo.
He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel and the Jewish Community Center of Bridgeport. He was a lifetime member of Mill River Country Club, and loved to play golf and cards with friends.
Louis Gladstone was active throughout his life and helped many people over the years asking nothing in return.
