Aileen HOGGE Obituary

HAYES - Aileen Welsh Hogge, age 83, passed away on Feb. 9, 2012 due to complications of a stroke.
She was born in Wilmington, N.C., on April 15, 1928. She attended school in North Carolina and Newport News (graduating from Warwick High School) and received her teaching certificate from Peace College in elementary education. She taught first grade for 10 years in Newport News at Parkview Elementary and loved being a teacher!!!! She spent the years following teaching as a homemaker and being a wife and a great mom. Her loves included crafts, quilting, cross stitch, collecting children's glass dishes and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. There was never any mountain she could not climb in life and she lived her faith daily! During the last six months, due to dementia, she lived at The Gloucester House and developed many friendships there as a resident. The staff loved her and her quick unpredictable wit!
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William H. Hogge; daughter, Rebecca H. Powell and husband, Mike; son, John H. Hogge and wife, Elise; grandchildren, Sarah Rebecca Powell, Matthew James Powell, Lauren Elise Hogge and Marie Elise Hogge.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Ray Goude Jr., will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden.
In memory of Aileen, memorial contributions may be made to Gloucester Point Baptist Church, P.O. Box 305 Gloucester Point, VA 23062; or The Alzheimer's Association, Gloucester Chapter, P.O. Box 1818, Gloucester, VA 23061. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

My heart goes out to the family of Sweet Ms. Hogge. I helped care for her a short time during her stay at the Gloucester House. Ms. Hogge won me over with her quick wit. Very nice and fun woman to have cared for. She will be missed. Again my prayers and heart is with the family during this time. It was truly a privilage to have been apart of her care.
