Helen ANAS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Helen Zambetis Anas, 92, died Dec. 5, 2009.
She was born in Richmond, Va., but lived in Newport News for the past 72 years. She was the widow of Theodore G. Anas, longtime resident and self-employed merchant in Newport News.
She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church as well as a member of both the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Golden Hearts.
She is survived by her four loving children, Ellen Smith and husband, Eugene, Christine Thomas and husband, Charles, Mary Anas, and George Anas and wife, Jaquelyn. Surviving grandchildren are Shannon Lenisa and husband, Claudio, Alan Smith, Steve Smith, Charlie Thomas and wife, Elizabeth, Zack Thomas, Katherine Birnbaum and husband, Adam, Suzanne Jurich and husband, Bryan; and great-grandchildren, Dante and Bella Lenisa, Hayley and Ryan Birnbaum, and Connor Jurich. She is also survived by siblings, Lou Cocolis, Virginia Karidavis, Zack Zambetis and wife, Tina.
A prayer service will be conducted by Father George Chioros at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at the Peninsula Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, at 60 Traverse Road, Newport News.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Golden Hearts or the charity of your choice.
