William Endebrock Obituary

HAMPTON - Though he worked until the end of his life and never spent a day in retirement, William Augustine "Augie" Endebrock enjoyed his 70 years to the fullest. Having accomplished nearly all of what he set his mind to, he slipped away to heaven in the early morning hours of Sun., Dec. 4, 2016, in the arms of his wife, Starr, at their home in Hampton. Born on Jan. 5, 1946, to William Augustine Endebrock Sr. and Kathleen White Endebrock, Augie became the "man of the house" at age two upon the death of his father. Kathleen's brother, Endebrock White Company co-founder Raymond White, stepped in to fill the void, helping to raise Augie as his own and teaching him the building construction trade. With the passing of his beloved uncle in 1997, Augie became president of the company and diversified it to include the construction of roads, parking lots, golf cart paths and other paving applications nationwide. The success of the business made it possible for Augie to help others he cared about, typically without their ever knowing who had been their guardian angel. From his earliest years, he worked to help his young widowed mother provide for their family, beginning with milking cows at a local farm before school and lifeguarding at the Williamsburg Country Club. An expert equestrian and former owner of 18 racehorses, he was at various times the Native American warrior astride Wampo at William & Mary Tribe football games, a rarely beaten barrel racer, and the James River Hunt Club's Master of the Hunt. His interests also included tournament fishing, private piloting, hunting, speedboats and pleasure craft. In addition to Roni Starr Trevallion, his wife of nearly 33 years, he leaves behind two children, Tiffany Lynn Matern (Mark) of Yorktown and Brock Endebrock (Kelly) of Hayes; their mother, Deborah Atkinson Stembler (Bill) of Yorktown; grandchildren Cain, Ayden, Hannah and Lindsay; his sister Billie Dean (Albert) of Barhamsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Fowler White Bellflower (Jim) of Yorktown. Rev. Norwood Montgomery (Odessa) and Rev. Frank White (Carmen), both of North Carolina and also among Augie's cousins, will officiate and provide special music at his celebration of life services. Additional survivors include Starr's sisters, Tia Renee Trevallion of Gloucester and Melissa Trevallion Hespenhide of Newport News. Curly Byrd, Augie's English Springer Spaniel and constant companion, is also heartbroken and misses PawPaw terribly. A celebration of thanksgiving for a life well lived will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Zion United Methodist Church, a church attended by generations of Augie's family, at 2109 Seaford Road in York County's Seaford community. The family will welcome friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Augie will be laid to rest at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News in the Endebrock Family section with his parents and infant brother, Robert Lee, following the service. Expressions of sympathy in any form will be cherished by the family in memory of Augie who, by his example, taught us the meanings of love, family and giving from the heart. "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." Philippians 1:3 Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.

Roni and Family, sorry to hear of Augies passing, although we were not real close friends we kept up with each other since the 60's when we used to date some of the same girls way back then, later he bought furniture from me when I was in that business, then boating kept us in contact. I'm in Florida and sorry can't attend the service tomorrow but will be home in about a week. If you need any help with the boat I will be glad to help you any way I can.

To Sissy, Missy, Thom, Tia, Jack, Taylor, Alexis and to the rest of the Endebrock Family, I am very sorry for your loss. Regrettably I did not know AUGIE as long as you did, but in the time that I knew him, I knew him to be a man with integrity, love of life and family. Augie was a man people looked up to and respected. I know he will be missed.

To call Augie a "Brother-in-law" diminishes his value in my life. He was a brother in every sense of the word. His passing leaves a void in my life and a hole in my heart that can never be filled. He will always be missed.

Though it's been nearly one week, I cannot believe my lifelong friend has now departed this life. I'll always remember our youth growing up together in Williamsburg culminating with regular conversations over the past few years. While Augie shared the news of his illness with me, he never once complained and I truly thank God that I had a last chance to speak with my friend ten or so days ago. Augie, I'm going to miss you but I know that one day I'll see you again on "the other side." RIP, old buddy......
