Bok Soon Park

Ms. Bok Soon Park of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2010, at her home after having a long and courageous fight against gastric cancer.

She was born in Seoul, Korea in 1930. She received primary and secondary education in Korea which was followed by a college education in art.

During the Korean War and afterwards, she served with the United States 8th Army as a recreational staff member until 1972, then immigrated to the United States of America. For the first few years, she worked at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia. She then worked for over 20 years at the Michie Publishing Company in Charlottesville.

After retirement in 1998, she enjoyed her hobbies of piano playing, gardening, and particularly raising tropical birds. At some points, she had more than 10 birds, and was known to her friends and acquaintances as "a bird's lady".

She was a member of Charlottesville Korean Community Church.

She is survived by a sister, Dr. Janet H. Lee of Charlottesville; and a nephew, Dr. David C. Lee of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Monticello Memory Gardens.

Boc Soon ...... You always had a smile on your face, and a kind word on your lips, and that is how you will always be remembered..

The Lam family of Los Angeles felt a deep kinship with Bok Soon Park and will always remember her with kindness and loving thoughts! My father, sisters and brothers visited often and always took the time to go and see her and spend time with her when in Charlottesville.

Bok Soon Park was a loyal and caring individual who was a valued friend and a part of our family. She was selfless and generous with her time. She epitomized friendship in so many ways and never hesitated to lend a hand when needed or just to be there during challenging moments in life. We will never forget her and will always treasure our memories and times with her!
