Brewster Allison Obituary

Brewster S.T. Allison

Brewster S.T. Allison of Waynesboro, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010. He was 71.

He was born January 16, 1939, in Ithaca, New York, son of the late Brewster J. and Edna G. (Tharp) Allison.

His parents recognized his artistic abilities early and encouraged his talents by sending him to art classes at Syracuse University when he was 12 years old. Following graduation from high school, he attended Syracuse University before beginning a sales career and raising a family. During this time, he was a reader for his Christian Science church, something he truly enjoyed.

He began his career in radio in 1969. His outgoing personality, determination and creativity were well suited for his work in advertising sales. He worked in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg and Staunton for more than 30 years, at WSVA-Q101, WINA, WKAV, and The News Leader.

Brewster's true passion was drawing, and his cartoons were published regionally and nationally, including in the Saturday Evening Post.

He is survived by his son, John Allison and his wife, Margaret, of Lawton, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kimberly Kelly of Richmond and Karen Allison and her husband, Ned Carle, of Troy; granddaughter, Chelsea McAvoy; great- granddaughter, Marley; two sisters, Peggy Booker of Charlottesville and Ellen Brewster and her husband, Bill Florence, of Whitehall; and several nieces.

He is also survived by his second family, his companion of 25 years, Barbara H. Drumeller; her children, Mary D. Binda, William Drumeller and Anne Edgecomb and her husband, John, all of Waynesboro; and her grandchildren, Caitlin and Rachel Binda and Sam Drumeller.

We thank the wonderful nursing staff at Avante of Waynesboro, whose professional and compassionate care comforted Brewster and his family during his final days.

There will be a remembrance of Brewster 2 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Waynesboro, with a reception to follow.

A private family gathering will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Saturday, January 15, 2011, for Brewster's inurnment.
