Howard Huffman Obituary

Howard Edward Huffman, 42, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed from this world Friday, March 31, 2006, after a prolonged illness. He was the only son of the late Captain Richard Gregg Huffman and Janet Allen Huffman.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Douglas Atkinson Jr. of Richmond, Virginia; his sister, Elizabeth Anne Huffman of Troy, Virginia; paternal grandfather, Mr. Richard Norman Gregg of Dayton, Ohio; cousins, Mr. Frank Bingham McGinley Jr. of Savannah, Tennessee, Mrs. David Taylor of Dyersburg, Tennessee, The Honorable Judge Charles Creed McGinley of Savannah, Tennessee, and Mr. Charles Thomas McGinley III of Alamedo, California.

Howard graduated from Albemarle High School, PVCC and Virginia Commonwealth University. He was pursuing a Master of Arts Degree from Old Dominion University while substitute teaching in Albemarle County Schools at the time of his death.

A faithful member of the Catholic Church, Howard was active with the Knights of Columbus, serving the Fr. Justin Cunningham Council #11342 as treasurer. He held the highest position of the council as Grand Knight at the time of his death. He was an active supporter of the Republican Party, working diligently wherever needed.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Charlottesville.

Howard's family extends special appreciation to several life long friends, Don and Ester Burch, Ingrid Pors and the late Heinz Pors and former teachers, Judy Barnes and Patricia Bottom Delany, supporters of Howard since elementary school.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Catholic charities, in loving memory of Howard, a kind and gentle man, who always worked to help others in the mission of giving true grace.

I would like to say that Howard was always a good friend to me. My son, who is 12 wrote a poem on friends and is as follows:

FRIENDS

A friend is someone who comforts wherever they go

A friend is someone who plays with you in the snow

A friend is someone you play with all day

Though he may leave you some night or some day

But there is one friend that will never die

He will never leave you or I

His name is Jesus: The Holy One

His name is Jesus: He is God's Son

He is with you wherever you go

He will never leave youcome rain or come snow

He is coming back one day

So do not wait:go ahead and say

"Jesus, please come into my heart"

"Jesus, I am ready for a brand new start.

Howard was always there for everyone,in anyway he could be.He will be missed by many in our class, for all the contributions he made.He is in God's hands now and at peace.

All of Howard's fellow Knights of Columbus and his fellow parishioners at St Thomas Aquinas are going to miss him terribly. He was always so quick to be of service to anyone who needed help. "Requiescat in pace."

The Albemarle High School Class of 1983 will be forever grateful for Howard's contributions in planning our 20 year reunion. He was truly one of a kind.

I met Howard at a Republican gathering and thereafter, we enjoyed a number of lively political discussions. Then I would see Howard at my daughter's school. I'm very sorry that his time and faithful service have been cut short. It is our loss as well. I hope Howard has found eternal reward.
