John V. Garland

John V. Garland of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Sunday, May 2, 2010.

He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 24, 1930, the son of the late Jerome Garland and Jane Bruce.

He attended Episcopal High School and was a graduate of Bullis Prep School and the University of Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Sally McCoy Garland; and three sons, John Jr., Thomas and his wife, Diana Farrell, and E. Shanklin Garland.

He was a stock broker and investment manager for Anderson and Strudwick for 52 years serving as Senior Vice President and branch manager. He also served as President of the United Way two separate times. He was a strong supporter of the University of Virginia and their athletic programs

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. Paul's Church in Ivy, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
