Money is only of value as long as we are living, it can't buy you life. It's good to know Mr. Kluge was not changed by money. He was a good person and will be missed. 95 years is a long time for the current world in which we live but is nothing compared to living forever. The time will soon come in which John Kluge may be resurrected and have that opportunity to live forever. To his family and friends, take comfort in knowing that one day soon our heavenly father will bring about a kingdom that will last forever. It will be at this time that "God will wipe the tears from our eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore." (Revelation 21:3,4)

Mr. Kluge was a tremendous man. My step-father worked for him on Morven, and he took such wonderful care of his employees and their families. I was just a young girl, but I remember how kind and generous he was. Obviously, he worked hard, but he knew how to reward hardwork too. The world is a better place for all he did. I pray for the family in this hard time.

To the Kluge family,

Please know that my heart, too, is heavy by the going home of our dear “angel.” After suffering a catastrophic and life-changing illness, in an effort to rebuild my life, over 10 years ago, I reached out to thousands for help (e.g., NY Times Neediest Cases Fund) and Mr. Kluge answered my cry. His kindness and generosity has touched my life and will continue to do so forever. He helped me such a way that each day I take a moment to close my eyes and whisper a soft, “Thank you, Mr. Kluge.”

Although I never had the opportunity to meet him, over the years I took great pride and joy in writing to update him on my life and to let him know how his acts of kindness make a difference. May the memories you cherish bring you strength and comfort in this time of sorrow.

With deepest sympathy,
Carmelita Wiggins

I had the gracious opportunity to meet John Kluge while working for Louis A. Wolfe in NYC in 1977. John and Lou were exceptionally good friends. From time to time, John would stop by the office just before closing. On many cold, snowy evenings, John would give Lou and I rides to the train/subway stations in his custom-made limosine. I remember him to be a very warm, soft-spoken, kind man. It was an honor having met him and to be in his company. God Bless John.

I am of German heritage and appreciate reading of John Kluge's many successes...and GOOD LUCK. German's have been blessed with remarkable strengths. I became aware of Mr. Kluge when my husband, whom I lost suddenly last year, and I were traveling near Charlottesville to visit friends. We had to drive past the Estate...awesome. Our friends told us about Mr. Kluge. Then I also remember hearing about our former Govenor's visits to the Estate. I did not know of his disposition of the property to UVA, but how wonderful to learn that UVA will be able to continue to serve the larger communtiy through his bountiful gifts. The world has lost a great man. May you be comforted by the knowledge of all the good he did during his lifetime.

I was so impressed after reading your obituary, and so admire an individual who has the foresight to accomplish all the things you did. It makes me not understand why I did not have some of the things you possessed to do that.
