Josephine D. Werthan

Josephine D. Werthan, 94, Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, Tennessee, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at the Appalachian Christian Village following a brief illness.

Mrs. Werthan was a native of Mineral, Virginia, and was a former resident of Louisa, Virginia, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, before moving to Johnson City in 2006.

She was a daughter of the late William Ashley and Lizzie Ware Dickinson.

Mrs. Werthan was a retired Amish Farm and House tour guide in Lancaster.

She was a member of the Mineral Historical Society, the Louisa Court House Chapter of the N.S.D.A.R. at Shomokin, Pennsylvania, General Hospital Auxillary and an honorary member of the Virginia All Stars in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Mrs. Werthan was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, most recently the First United Methodist Curch in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Werthan; her son, Phillip "Flip" D. Rhoads; and three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Werthan is survived by her granddaughter, Jeneen Rhoads; a great-granddaughter, Christine Rhoads; a daughter-in-law, Kay Rhoads; and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa, Virginia, with the Reverend Robert Haley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 68 North Church Street, Ephrata, PA 17522-2038.
