Josephine O'Connor Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Oct. 25 to Nov. 8, 2009.

Josephine "Jo" O'Connor, 88, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Jo was born on May 26, 1921. She became Walter O'Connor's "bride" on July 25, 1942, and they were married for 67 wonderful years.

Jo was the mother of Candice Rice and the late Thomas O'Connor and the mother-in-law to Kenneth Rice and Jean O'Connor.

She is survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jo was the sister of Eleanor Christie and the late Margaret Garrison.

She volunteered for 21 years at Martha Jefferson Hospital, gave often to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and was an active member of the Catholic Church.

Jo's motto was "Live. Love. Laugh." That's what she always did, and that's what people did when they were with her.

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009, at St. Bede Catholic Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bucktrout of Williamsburg and condolences may be registered at www.bucktroutfuneralhome.net.

Dear Uncle Walter

When I think of Aunt Jo, I will always remember her beige trench coat, her unique voice and that she gave a great hug....

I hope that as time passes, the grief you feel in your heart is replaced with peace and comfort as well as the wonderful memories you and Aunt Jo shared.

Take care of yourself...stay well and
remember to smile...Aunt Jo would want you to

Love Michael and Cindy

I had the great pleasure of working with both the O'Connors when they were volunteers at Martha Jefferson Hospital. I have never in my life met a more loving couple. Walter and family, my heart goes out to you all. Jo was an amazing woman. She truly lived by her motto. The patients and families she came in contact with were blessed and comforted by her loving, caring manner. Her smile could brighten even the darkest day. May your memories of Jo comfort you in this time of sorrow.
