Kathryn Lucile Foller Burruss

Kathryn Lucile Foller Burruss died on Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Chandler, Arizona, following a long period of decline.

Lucile is survived by one sister, Rebecca Jane Foller Leake of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; a son, Henry Walker Burruss Jr. of Forest, Virginia; and two daughters, Kathryn Burruss Stapleton of Haymarket, Virginia, and Barbara Burruss Lee of Chandler, Arizona. Other family members include a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Clarke Burruss; and sons-in-law, Daniel V. Stapleton Jr. and David E. Lee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lucile was born in York, Pennsylvania, on December 25, 1918, and grew up in Pennsylvania. After her graduation from Millersville State Teacher's College, she taught elementary school until her marriage to Henry Walker Burruss in 1942. Once World War II ended, Henry and Lucile moved to Virginia, which was home to the Burruss family. Henry and Lucile were married for fifty-four years.

Lucile will be remembered as an elementary school teacher for many years in Mathews, Virginia, and in Tappahannock, Virginia. After her husband was ordained a United Methodist pastor in 1969, she capably supported his work by using her lifelong love of music to lead choirs and play the piano. Although she was involved in all areas of church work, she was especially active in the United Methodist Women, holding several officer positions at the church and district level.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2020, at Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet, Virginia.

Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
