Kenneth Schaar Obituary

Published by Daily Progress on Dec. 28, 2009.
Kenneth Allen "Kenny" Schaar

Kenneth Allen "Kenny" Schaar, 65, of Amherst, died suddenly Friday morning, December 25, 2009, at the Lynchburg General Hospital.

Kenny was born June 11, 1944, at the home place in Amherst County, a son of the late Ernest Coghill Schaar and Tenny Campbell Schaar.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for the Southern Railroad for 13 years and retired from the Virginia Department of Highways after 22 years of service and was a former employee of Hill Hardware in Amherst.

Kenny was a devoted and dedicated lifelong member of Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Amherst and served faithfully as Lay Leader and Speaker, Adult Sunday School teacher, church treasurer and held many other positions in the church over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Bond Schaar; his brother, James "Jimmy" Schaar and his wife, Betty, of Amherst; along with many loving nieces, nephews and other loving and caring family members and friends who he loved dearly and those whom will miss his daily phone calls showing his love, friendship and concerns.

A celebration of Kenny's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Wesleyan United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jeffrey Campbell and the Reverend David Edinger officiating.

Jean and Kenny's brother, Jimmy and his wife, Betty, along with the rest of the family, will receive friends from 4 until 9 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at the residence and should these hours not be convenient, friends may visit Jean anytime.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions in Kenny's memory to the Wesleyan United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 757, Amherst, VA 24521.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church and due to road conditions to and from the family cemetery, interment will be announced and held at a later day.

Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston, 434-263-4097.

Jean.Jimmy and family, our thoughts and prayers are for you during this time of grief. Our Bible tells us that God gives us the strength to endure anything he puts upon us. We can't help but ask why at times, but we have to turn to our faith and know God always has a plan and a reason for everything He does. God Bless you all.

To the Schaar Family:

Words don't have the power to sooth our troubled hearts, for time alone can ease the pain that life sometimes imparts... But may these words of sympathy help show you that we care, and may they somehow soften the sorrow you now bear.
