Lila Gertrude Butler

Lila Gertrude Butler, also known as mom, granny, GG and Gertie, 80, of Scottsville, died on Monday, November 15, 2010, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on December 25, 1929, in Charlottesville, a daughter of the late Rhodsey Lee Fitzgerald Sr. and Manie Goldsboro (Mason) Fitzgerald.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Butler attended Fox Memorial Baptist Church and retired from Fluvanna County Public Schools as a bus driver. She loved gardening, cooking, refinishing furniture and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 57 years, Malcolm Lee Butler; three devoted children who loved her dearly, Wayne Keith and Terry Butler of Scottsville, Daniel Brent Butler of Glen Allen, and Diane (Butler) and Paul Brantley of Scottsville; a sister, Christine F. Chapman of Scottsville; a brother, Rhodsey Lee Fitzgerald Jr. of Scottsville; four loving grandchildren, Keith and Keri Butler, Kim and Mike Cobbs, Candace and Jason Bevins, Matthew Brantley; eight cherished great-grandchildren that she called her babies, Kyle Butler, Baby Butler, Dillan Cobbs, Malcolm Cobbs, Lila Cobbs, Zachary Bevins, Zoey Bevins, Baby Bevins; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville by the Reverend Randy Golladay. Burial will follow at Scottsville Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation however those desiring may sign the guest book anytime at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Dr. Richard Joyce, Dr. William Hammond, Dr. Timothy Williams, and Hospice of the Piedmont for the devoted care they provided.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, Virginia 22911.

Dear Mac and family, Our hearts are heavy with the news of Gertrude's death. I'll always remember her for her laughter and joking. I'm sorry we can't be with you today as you celebrate her life, but know that we are there in our hearts.
