Martha Ann Marshall

Martha Ann Marshall, 76, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.

She was born on October 21, 1933, in Charlottesville to the late Carroll Bledsoe Thomas Sr. and Eslie Ola Wood Thomas. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Josephine Marsh Pugh, Latelle Bunch, Jane Coleman, Shirley Gering, and Carroll Bledsoe Thomas Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Thomas Marshall; her daughters, Deborah G. Pugh and Kimberly M. Underwood and her husband David. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Lakin and Kirsten Underwood; and her long-time friend, Julia Morton.

She was devoted to her family and took great pride in her grandchildren, enjoyed life and always kept her word. She was a kind and caring individual with a courageous and determined outlook on life.

She was deeply loved by her family and all that knew her and will be missed dearly.

She retired from GE-Fanuc in 1994 after a long career, to spend more time with her family.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont and Kris Payne for their loving care and support.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Bruce Hunter officiating.
