Merium Jinks Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Feb. 4 to Feb. 5, 2012.
Merium Knight Jinks

Merium Knight Jinks, of Dyke, Virginia, went to the Promised Land on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at her home. "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, and I look upon His face, the one who save me by his grace. When he takes me by the hand and leads me through the Promised Land, what a day glorious day that will be." (Jim Hill) These were the last words spoken by Merium a little over 12 years ago.

Merium was born on August 11, 1936, in Dyke, Virginia, one mile from where she resided with her husband of almost 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Ivan and Sylvia Morris Knight. She was preceded in death by her only beloved son, Ivan Joseph Jinks.

She is survived by her husband, James P. Jinks of Dyke, Virginia; her daughter, Lisa Jinks Hastings and her husband, James, of Midlothian, Virginia; two granddaughters, Jaimi Jinks and Angela Hastings; and one grandson, Joseph Hastings of Midlothian, Virginia; two step grandsons, James Hastings and Lester "Eric" Hastings of Richmond, Virginia; and one great-grandson, Jaxsun Carter Shrewsbury of Midlothian, Virginia. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. James A. Palmer and wife, Marie, of Dyke, Virginia, and Mrs. Calvin K. Powell and wife, Charlotte, of Stanardsville, Virginia. Merium started working at the age of 17 at State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company, and she later worked for the Albemarle County School System at Broadus Wood Elementary School. In 1991, she retired from the University of Virginia Department of Radiology. Merium was a loving, caring and kind spirit. She was a great wife, an exceptional mother, sensational cook and seamstress. She was a member of Mount Grove Chapel Church of the Brethren. During the years prior to her illness she was very active with teaching Sunday School, working with youth groups, and lady's ministries of the churches she attended. She loved God, people, and helping others in any way that she could.

The Jinks family would like to thank Dr. Robert B. Ooghe, Dr. Jonathan Evans, the nurses and CNA's of Legacy Hospice, Bridgette, Michelle and Tracy, and Chaplin Murphy Terry for their care and support. We would also like to thank Clarisa Michie, Merium's caregiver and friend, for her exceptional care and support over the last five years.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Road, Dyke, VA 22935. There will be a graveside service 2 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Holly Memorial Gardens, Route 29 North, Charlottesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Merium's honor to the Nortonsville Church of God Family Life Center, 1505 Simmons Gap Rd. Dyke, VA 22935 or to Legacy Hospice, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 180 Charlottesville, VA 22911. An online guestbook is available at www.ryanfuneral.com. Ryan Funeral Home of Ruckersville is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Jinks...May God continue to bless you with His Grace. I miss you and Merium a lot. Ironically I spoke of you just yesterday...January 28th 2021...wow. And I received a reminder of the day Merium gained her wings. I adored her so much...was a very caring person even in her illness...I could see her being thankful kind and a loving person in her eyes. I love you all...Marie Lisa and all grandbabies.
