Richard Elwood Gibson Jr.
Richard Elwood "Ricky" Gibson Jr., devoted father and husband, was born June 18, 1962, and died Wednesday, December 29, 2010.
Ricky was a graduate of Western Albemarle High School in 1981. He attended automobile mechanics studies then went on to pursue a career with Albemarle County School Systems for 12 years. Ricky's current job was as the sexton at Westminster Presbyterian Church for the past 10 years. He loved his job. Ricky was a very devoted employee and felt blessed to work with such a nice staff.
Ricky was known to many to be one of the most kind hearted persons you could have met. He was a very loved man who was kind to everyone he knew and loved. He would give the shirt off his back. Ricky gave to the homeless. He provided affordable housing, took in friends in need, never had a cross word to say about anyone he loved. He was an animal lover. Ricky has touched so many people in his life in a positive way. His heart was bigger than life. He will be greatly missed.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dawn Ellen Gibson of Keswick; two sons, Richard Elwood Gibson III of Keswick and Brandon Lee Gibson and his fianc‚e, Danielle Johnston, of Keswick; a godson, James Alexander Staton of Keswick, whom was raised by Ricky and Dawn since birth and absolutely adored; his parents, Richard Elwood Gibson Sr. and Barbara Jean Gibson, both of North Garden; siblings, Teresa Ann Deane and her husband, Craig, of Keswick, Martha Jane "Janie" Beverly and her husband, Sammy, of Crozet, Michael Eugene Gibson and his wife, Donna, of Earlysville, Timothy Wayne Gibson of North Garden, and Barbara Jean Powell of Earlysville; and his beloved pet and best friend, "Poochie".
Ricky is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends, whom will miss him and remember all the good deeds he accomplished in his life.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jim Baker officiating.
Interment will follow at 1p.m., at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Uncle Ricky is greatly missed, Our family will never be the same with out him. My heart and prayers go out to his two son's my cusions Lil Rick and Brandon. Dawn,
I am late, but you know how much I depended on Ricky. He was a gentle soul,. always with a smile. I remember Ricky & I hunting for poison ivy around the playground because one student, Samuel B. was so very allergic to it. We looked & looked some more; Ricky was intent on finding every single trace of it. We laughed when we realized how funny we looked!
But, no more allergic reactions for Samuel..
I'm still sad.
