Robert James Knapp

Robert James Knapp, 71, of Palmyra, died on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at a Charlottesville health care facility.

He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on August 31, 1938, the son of the late Wert Ephraim Knapp and Inez Wensley Knapp.

Mr. Knapp was retired from IBM after 25 years of service and was the owner of RJK Appraisal Resources.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He was a resident of Lake Monticello, where he was an avid golfer and boater. He had a love for life and could always be found with a smile on his face. He was a loving, caring and devoted family man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Iona Willcox Knapp; two daughters, Sharon Knapp Mullen and her husband, Bernard E. Mullen, of Manassas, Deborah Knapp Tate and her husband, Staff Sergeant Benjamin R. Tate of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two sisters, Carol Knight of Connecticut and Shirley Cassett of New York; four grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Mullen, Samantha and Rodger Tate; and his mother-in-law, Olabelle E. Willcox of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Charlottesville Health and Rehab and the Hospice of the Piedmont.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901, www.alz.org or the American Cancer Society, 1445 Rio Road East, Charlottesville, VA 22901, www.cancer.org, or to a favorite charity.
