Sarah Verna Harris

Sarah Verna Harris departed this life on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was born on April 9, 1924, to the late Sarah Maupin and Marshall Harris. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Nathan Daniel Harris Sr.; and nephews Nathan Daniel Harris Jr. and Michael Steven Harris.

Sarah graduated from Albemarle Training School. After a brief stint attending business school, she returned to the Charlottesville community to work.

Sarah enjoyed life with her quick wit. She was very crafty mastering the art of sewing and knitting. She was an avid card player and also enjoyed attending the horse races.

She leaves to cherish her memory two nieces, Patricia Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, and Frances and Henry Waller of Dale City, Virginia; two nephews, Thomas Marshall Harris and Edward Douglas Harris, both of Charlottesville; four great-nephews, Derrick Williams and Patrick Waller, both of Dale City, Virginia, Isaiah Harris of Charlottesville and Ricco Harris of Mitchells, Virginia; two great-nieces, Lisa and John Harrigan of Bloomington, Illinois, and Patrice Harris Shelton of Charlottesville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the chapel of J.F. Bell Funeral Home.
