Vickie Martin Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Sep. 29 to Sep. 30, 2010.

Vickie A. Martin

Vickie A. Martin, 52, of Free Union, departed this life on Monday, September 27, 2010, at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on April 20, 1958, in Charlottesville, the daughter of Randolph Earl Martin and the late Delphia Bethel Martin.

Vickie was an assistant with a local investment firm, who graciously supported her throughout her illness.

Vickie was a loving sister and supportive aunt who leaves us with many fond memories of her passion for life.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her loving companion, John Clouser of Locust Grove; a sister, Connie Brock of Free Union; a brother, Randy Martin and his companion, Cindy Gillies, of Free Union; and a niece, Jennifer Brock of Free Union. And last but not least, her faithful dog Bailey.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Free Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Don Hellms officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Judes Hospital, 3812 North Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family expresses special thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont, Dr. William Grosh, and her employers at Quad-C Management for their compassionate care and many kindnesses.

Connie, Mr. Martin, Jennifer, Randy, and John, "Smile, though your heart is aching, Smile, even though it's breaking, When there are clouds in the sky, You'll get by....If you smile, With your fear and sorrow, Smile and maybe tomorrow, You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just smile...Light up your face with gladness, Hide every trace of sadness, Although a tear may be ever so near, That's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use in crying, You'll find that life is still worthwhile, if you just....smile." What a beautiful photo of Vickie!! And what a smile she had!! Connie, it has been so hard knowing what you must be feeling inside. I have one sister too, and I know how opinionated they can be, but what do we do without them? Just give her to God and He will keep her perfect and in His love and light forever. I love you all....you are a very real and true second family to me, and Connie, I don't know what I'd have done without you so many times in my life. I hope that I can be here for you just one-tenth as much as you have been there for me...then I'll know that I have helped a little. God bless you all, with much love,
