Winifred S. Haney Winifred S. Haney, 84, of Charlottesville, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at his home.

Winifred was born on September 3, 1925, in Greene County, to the late Benjamin and Carrie Haney. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 26 years, Sallie Haney.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy Scott of Clifton Forge; one son, Wayne S. Haney of Charlottesville; two brothers and their wives, Benjamin and Edsel; two sisters, Elva and Madge; two grandchildren, Stephanie L. Scott and her husband, Scott Pivnick, of Arlington, and Tracy S. Hoerdemann and her husband, Eric, of Yardley, Pennsylvania; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Jenna Pivnick, Eric John and Katie Hoerdemann; a special friend, Shirley Sandridge; and last but not least, his dog, Queenie.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor and generosity to family and friends.

Winifred served his country in the United States Navy as a Corpsman and a veteran of World War II. He was a longtime owner and operator of the Rivanna Amoco Service Station.

The family will be receiving friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Holly Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Ashley Abarca-Mitchell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

My deepest sympathy to Wayne and the family- My husband and I lived near Winifred for many years.He was a wonderful man-always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Haney's passing. My husband, Steve Irving, worked for him and Sally when he was in high school. Steve lost his battle with cancer in 2008. Please accept my sympathy and prayers for your family.
