Yolanda Hawkins Obituary
She was born in Newark, New Jersey on December 13, 1973, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie Carr. She was the wife of Richard Lee Hawkins.
She was a stay at home mother and a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was a member of New Covenant Pentecostal Church and a member of the Praise Team. Her love for Christ was evident in the songs she sung and the joy that she gave to others who knew her. Her favorite pastimes were shopping and spending quality time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Richard Lee Hawkins; a daughter, Shantika Nicole Hawkins; four brothers, Thomas, James, William, and Stefon Carr; two sisters, Antionette, and Danielle Carr; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church with Bishop William Nowell officiating.
Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of Landa's Passing. I had just stopped by a few weeks ago and me and her got a chance to laugh and now she is gone to a better place. she was such a good person, friend, mother the day i stopped by she and her daughter was getting homework done and we all know how that goes but it was nice to speak to her and I know she loved her daughter and family. again I am so sorry but Rea we know she is in a better place and I know she would like for all of us to smile and keep going because she always had a smile and a kind word in her heart. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Richard and the Hawkins family. I send you my ever condolsences of your loss. May God take away all the pain you and the family are feeling at this time. I remember the times I worked with you guys at the Ohill Dinning Hall. Those seem like so many years ago,yet they really weren't. Yolanda was a eunique person. She always had a smile even in the worst of times. She always was there to keep us going at work. Richard I know it will be hard for you and your daughter for quite some time,since the love the two of you had was special as well. Just remember that she is always there in the one place she can't be taken away from the heart.You have been such a great freind even when I left the campus we would still see each other at K-mart. And you would stand and talk until I would tell you your wife was going to come out searching for you, That beatuiful daughter that you two have will need you ever so much so keep the faith hold on to God for he is the only one that can make since of this and he will show you what he wants of you next.
