James Payne Obituary

Payne, James Martin Payne, James M. (Jim) passed away November 19th at the age of 82. Born July 14, 1928 in Quinlan, Texas to William Rile and Nannae Payne. Jim attended Texas A&M University before entering the Army to serve in the Korean War ,where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He married Rose Marie Calvert on December 24, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana and later had two sons. In 1954, Jim began a very successful 46 year career in the water treatment business. His joy in life was to provide for his family. His passion, outside of that, was to help others, which led to a lifelong commitment to Masonic Work. He was a Past Master of Zavala Lodge #1059; Past DDGM of Grand Lodge of Texas; York Rite Council, Chapter, & Commandery; Past Director of Hella Shrine stage crew; Royal Order of Jesters; 33 Degree Scottish Rite; and Red Cross Constantine. He was also an active member of the Alpha Class of Lakeside Baptist Church. Jim also fancied himself a chef, of sorts. This on occasion produced some marginally edible fare, but always resulted in a good time and a large mess! Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie, and oldest son, James R. Payne. He is survived by son, David A. Payne and wife Raney Payne, and daughter Shelby Osborne; daughter in law, Marcie Payne and grandchildren Tiffany and Jackee Payne, and great grandson Theo Alan Applewhite. Visitation Monday November 22 from 6-8pm with Memorial Services Tuesday November 23 at 12:30 at Restland . Memorials, if desired, may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn, Dallas, 75219

Dear David and Family: We were so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. After working for him at Mogul & Dexter since 1976, we became very close to Jim and Rosie and enjoyed many trips with them, especially fishing in Grand Isle. We will remember you in our prayers.
