Merle Morrow Obituary

Morrow, Merle M. Born on July 9, 1928 in Newport, TN, Merle Morrow was a descendant of a German immigrant family that settled during the 1800's in North Caroline's Cataloochee Valley, which is now part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Merle served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from Tennessee Technical University with a degree in Engineering. He worked for Reliance Electric during most of his career until he retired. Merle was very proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Hermine and their dear daughters, Holly Andrews and Wendy Faegre and their husbands, Lt. Colonel Chris Andrews and Kyle Faegre. He especially enjoyed happy times with his grandsons, Max Glover, Sam Faegre, and Tyler and Hunter Andrews. He is also survived by his brother, Gordon Morrow of Lebanon, TN and sisters-in-law Charlotte Morrow and Chris Morrow of Villa Grove, IL and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Merle had been active in Elks Lodges beginning in 1969 with Lodge #71. He became a charter member of the Plano-Richardson Lodge #2485 in 1972. Merle was also a member of the Tannehill Masonic Lodge, where he became a 32nd Degree Mason. We will miss him dearly. A private family interment will be held at the DFW National Cemetery. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12 at the Plano-Richardson Elks Lodge at 610 Presidential Drive Suite 102, Richardson, Texas 75081. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-2256.

My Friendship with Merle goes back to 1977 when he was a partner that purchased an apartment building from me. It was typical of him to want to meet me at the building and ask astute questions. I guess he liked what I said because in the coming years he invested in my real estate partnerships. We became more than business associates as we used to like to get together at his favorite haunts and drink beer. He was always game for great gossip and good jokes. He was not only an astute stock picker but he also had a heart of gold. When I was in financial trouble he lent me enough money to get back on my feet. I promptly paid him back. I will miss him as a good friend and business buddy.

I used to work with Merle at Reliance. I was right out of college and he taught me a lot. He will be missed.

I used to talk to Mr. Morrow everyday and I enjoyed him very much. He loved talking about his family and the Smokey Mountains. I know he will be missed and wish the best for the entire Morrow family as you grieve his loss.
