David Stokoe Obituary

David Thomas Stokoe
1978~2019
David Thomas Stokoe, age 40, passed away in Salt Lake City on January 17, 2019. He was born on May 26, 1978 to Diane Johnson Stokoe and Thomas Alexander Stokoe in Sandy Utah. He gained his work ethic, dedication and mild peaceful disposition from his father Tom, but learned and developed his open and unassuming qualities of being accepting, loving and non-judgmental to all from his mother Diane.
From birth, Dave was smart, curious, and respectful. He was always a good student and high-achieving in athletics, and popular not just by coolness but by kindness. He was taught to love God by parents who loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and because of that, served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Leeds England. He had a close relationship with his two full brothers Steve and Neil, and especially became close with Neil after serving his mission.
Dave had a unique talent of making everyone he interacted with feel like they were his best friend. He mentored countless people in the real estate industry after achieving all of his personal goals professionally.
But Dave's greatest achievement and love of his life wasn't his work success or his popularity, it was his family. He met his beautiful wife Nikki on a blind date and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 19, 2003. His in-laws Shaun and Ima Jean treated him like their own son. He intentionally sculpted his children to be confident and full of love for life and others. He treated Nikki like a princess and truly made it his personal mission each day to just do whatever she needed to feel loved.
One of Dave's proudest moments was finally having his son Cole ride side by side on dirt bikes with him, and he deeply valued his relationship with him and teaching him to be a man. Sophie was his sunshine and he made sure to spend time jumping on the tramp with her or playing with her before anything else, because play was how they shared their love. He had a special bond with his angel Lola and treasured his alone time with her after her baby sister was born. Ellie was his little mini-me and she picked up all his qualities as a sassy, spunky, rebellious ball of fire, just like her Daddy.
Dave's friends were truly his brothers. They were like family to him, teaching, mentoring, refining and sculpting him into the man he became.
We were blessed to know and love Dave for 40 years. As painful as it is for us to move on in this earthy life without him, we find peace and comfort knowing we will see him again and that his family will all be together again. Dave would not want the loss of his life to be for nothing. He would want us to take inspiration from his life and be our best selves, fight our fight, and live life to the fullest, putting relationships and love for each other above everything else.
Dave's legacy will be honored by his wife Nicole Tomsich Stokoe, children Cole (13), Sophie (10), Lola (7) and Ellie (5), parents Tom and Diane Stokoe, brother Neil (Corrine) Stokoe, half brothers Brian, Matt and Dean Belov, in-laws Shaun and Ima Jean Tomsich, Joe (Julie) Tomsich, and Jacob (Stacy) Tomsich. He will be greeted in heaven by Stephen Stokoe (brother), Michael Tomsich and Tony Tomsich (brothers-in-law).
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 2742 W. 14400 S. in Bluffdale on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 12:00 noon.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary on 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday January 24, and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church on Friday before funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, Dave's friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to help Nikki and his kids at https://www.gofundme.com/in-memory-of-dave-stokoe

We met Dave when he became our realtor in 2007. We remember his enthusiasim and patience with us as we looked at many places. At one house he hit his forehead pretty hard as we went downstairs to the basement. There was no light on the stairway and he did not see the ceiling drop on the last few stairs. He laughed and said he was OK. After we closed on the house we purchased I gave him a gift box with a flashlight and a box of bandaids to use when showing a poorly lite house. He was surprised to receive the box and them laughed with us when he opened it and saw what we gave him. We were saddened to hear of his passing. God bless his family and watch over them.

I first met Dave 10 or so years ago when I was interviewing Realtors to sell one of my homes. I posted it on FB & he was the very 1st one to call at 8 am the following morning. After meeting him, I knew he was the man for the job. Not only did he make the sell smooth but helped me deal with my disabled husband at the time, which wasn't an easy task. After that we developed a lasting friendship. Along with helping me look for another home I needed, I had him interview with my daughter & son-in-laws new construction company to possibly be our in-house realtor. He declined the offer however we still kept in touch by email, phone call or text. When I heard the news of his unfortunate death, I was shocked & still have a hard time fighting the tears from the untimely death of one incredible man who obviously would have done anything for anybody if in need. The Lord is blessed to have him back in his presence (which I know he surely is), but unfortunately our world will not be the same without such an amazing man. He will be sorely missed! Sending my love to his beautiful family...

Our family loves the Stokoes. The happy memories we have from our time as friends and neighbors in WillowCreek and the rich experience of growing and learning in the Union 19th/WillowCreek 3rd will always be a part of us. David was a beautiful child like his brothers, and his parents were/are exceptional. We are saddened at this sudden separation from his family and friends and pray for the peace and comfort of our Lord and Savior to remain with each of you.
Thank you for the special influence you have been in our lives. May David's children always know what an outstanding boy and man he has been and that they will be together again.
'Sending our love and heartfelt sympathy,
Ilda Berge and all the family

Dear friends, I am saddened by the loss of your son. I never met him, but by the obituary's details of his life, he was an exemplary man, father, husband, and son. I know you are proud of what he accomplished during his life here.
