Herbert Laughner Obituary

Herbert Laughner 6/27/1939~2/24/2003   NORTH SALT LAKE Herbert B. Laughner, age 63, passed away February 24, 2003 at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on June 27, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA.  He earned a Bachelor's  degree at California State University in 1961. Married Virginia Durden in 1966, later divorced. His career path included newspaper reporter, UPI photographer, and radio broadcaster, Publisher of the Salt Flat News, cable installation, casino employment, and bartender. He was in the process of retiring from Newspaper Agency Corporation at the time of his death.     Herb was a gentleman and a 'gentle- man'. He was a genuine wordsmith and enjoyed matching wits with contestants on Jeopardy. Herb volunteered his time every week by reading at the Utah School for the Blind. He was passionate about motor sports and old cars. He purchased his dream car, a 1979 Mercedes 450SL, just days ago. He will be missed by his kids Dennis  and Carol Guptill of Wendover, NV and their daughters Jennifer and Marie (who knew him as Uncle Herb) many friends and co-workers at NAC and the gang at Bar-X.  A memorial service will be held Monday, March 10, 2003 at 12 noon at Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East First South.  Special thanks to Michael P. O'Donnell for handling cremation arrangements and to the staff at Davis County Animal Control and Care for the love they have shown to Herb's beloved cat, Diva.
