Irene Clay Obituary

CLAY Irene (Aurora) Clay (nee Losego) was born on November 24, 1920, in Coshocton, Ohio, and passed away June 1, 2011. Irene worked as a beauty operator, and later for 15 years at the family-owned X-L Cleaners and Tommy's Cleaners. Irene was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Irene was named after the Aurora Borealis ("Northern Lights") by her parents who emigrated from Barcis, Italy. Irene most certainly lived up to that name, because she was the light of our lives. Irene was a loving wife and mother, and possessed such an enthusiastic, magnetic personality, once you met Mom, you'd never forget her. And if you ever enjoyed one of Mom & Aunt Lou's Sunday noon dinners (followed by a competitive card game), you knew you had a pretty good day. Mom will be sadly missed forever. Irene is preceded in death by her loving husband Ben, parents Angelo and Chiarina (Paulon) Losego, sisters Louise Losego and Mary (Uhlan) Emerson, and brothers Francis (Lorraine), Fred (Antonietta), John (Ruth) and Mario Losego. Irene is survived by her daughter, Luanne (James) Russell; son, Kevin Clay; and beloved grandson, Christopher Russell; as well as several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to everyone at First Community Village. Private graveside service and interment at South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton, Ohio by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 East Broad Street. Kevin, a great part of my childhood memories are being with your parents on Sundays. I hope she finds peace and comfort as she watches over you as you did her so many nights......Kevin

Back in the '70s, I was often one of the fortunate participants in those Sunday afternoon gatherings: great food and hospitality, great card games, and lots of laughs; now good memories. Your Mom was like a second Mom to me; she treated me with lots of love, a great deal of patience, and many good questions. My prayers are with you. Your Mom continues to watch over us.

LuAnne,

I was saddened to read your mother's obituary today in the paper. I remember how much fun she and your aunt were, telling all their stories. And I remember how many treats were around your house at Christmas. I just made your mother's hard tack candy a couple of years ago at Christmas. My deepest sympathies.
