Gordon Stevens Obituary


Gordon S. Stevens, passed away on March 9, 2009. Gordon was born on a ranch outside of Reserve, New Mexico on March 19, 1934. Gordon was a grandson of New Mexico Pioneer, Montague Stevens and was the son of George and Alice Stevens. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1951. While in high school, he was a Two-Time New Mexico State Golden Glove Champion. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was Honorably Discharged in 1953. On August 29, 1954, he married his wife of 55 years, Armida (nee Frangos). He graduated from University of New Mexico. He was employed by State Farm Mutual for 37 years, heading the El Paso Claim office from 1969 until 1993. Upon his retirement, he took on a second career which included helping raising his grandchildren which was his favorite occupation. He is survived by his wife, Armida Stevens, sons, J. Monty and G. Cameron and his wife, Linda and daughter, Chellie Hoover and her husband Jody. He is also survived by the true loves of his life to whom he was "Gramps/Beige", they are Clare, Justin, Helen, Jordan, Matthew, Jacob, James and Katherine. A special thanks is given to Gordon's caregiver, Jaime Garcia. A private burial will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere, El Paso, Texas, Monsignor Smith, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West. Please visit our online register book at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.

I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with all of you. Mr. Stevens was a true angel on earth. My fondest memory of him was making popcorn for customers at the Nursery, he would do anything for his children.
