ARNE HANSEN Obituary

Arne Carl Hansen passed away on August 20, 2013 at the age of 83. He was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin on February 3, 1930 to Norwegian immigrant parents Chris and Kirsten Hansen. Always one to follow his own path, he left the family farm as a young man, served in the Navy, and graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1958. In 1959, he married Nancy Joan Pazen, and they began their lives together in Milwaukee. By 1972, they had three children and moved overseas to Taiwan, where Arne worked for three years as plant manager and absorbed a lifetime of Chinese culture. At the end of these three years, the family moved to El Paso, their fourth child was born, and Arne worked as a plant manager in Juarez, Mexico. In El Paso, Arne became a founding member of the Sol Hjem Chapter of the Norwegian Society of Texas and was very active at Mount Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed flea markets, clock collecting, traveling and imparting a love for Norwegian culture to his children and grandchildren. Arne is survived by Nancy, wife of 54 years, children, Holly, Tarl, Kristin and Hans and their respective spouses and nine grandchildren: Matthew (and wife Jessica), Lindsey, Joshua, Jordan, Corey, Lucas, Erika, Marisa, and Gunnar. Also surviving are his brother Richard and wife Margret, and sister Elizabeth and husband Bob. Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina, on Friday, August 23rd from 6:00-8:00 in the evening. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, August 24th at Mount Hope Lutheran Church, 9640 Montwood Drive, at 11:00 in the morning. A brief graveside service will be held on Monday, August 26th at 2:30 in the afternoon at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Arne and I worked together as officers for the El Paso Norwegian Society. He served as chef at our cookouts and brought everything we needed. He was a great Norwegian and I will miss him very much.

Nancy and Hansen family,

Dean and I are sorry for your loss --- words just can't describe what Arne meant to the 'Pehle' family. I can't say that I miss being serenaded at 7:00a on a Saturday morning when the 'boys' were on their way to the flea market ---- but I will now cherish that memory just that much more! I know that if heaven has a flea market, Arne and Dad will be headed there Saturday morning and then will make their way to their own Conchita's for breakfast. May God grant peace, understanding and love during your time of grief. I'm sorry that we won't be able to make it for the service --- but please know y'all are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Hansen,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Hasta luego, Santa! I will miss greeting you in Norwegian at church and listening to your humorous stories. You were a faithful churchgoer, a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a friend to all of us. Mount Hope will never be the same, but heaven will be enriched by your presence.
