Harriet Allison Obituary

MASON CITY - Harriet E. Allison, 95, of Mason City died Monday (Dec. 21, 2009) at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Ave. S., Clear Lake, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Harriet Allison Memorial Fund.
Harriet was born April 13, 1914, in Clear Lake, the daughter of George Richard and Jessie Amanda (Johnson) Sheridan. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1931, and attended Mason City Junior College and Hamilton Business College.
Harriet married Norman Raine Allison on Aug. 22, 1937, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, and to this union three sons were born. Harriet worked as an office assistant at Iowa Hardware Mutual Association, Cerro Gordo Mutual, NEHI Bottling Co. and Gildners. She lived in Mason City most of her married life and moved to Clear Lake in 1975.
She was an avid gardener, an excellent cook and loved swimming. She also enjoyed wintering in Weslaco, Texas, where she and Norman made many friends. Harriet also liked to play cards and was very devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the TTT Society and the Holy Family Guild.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony (Dorothy) Allison, Mason City, Patrick Allison, Des Moines and Gregory (Kaye) Allison, Dove Canyon, Calif., grandchildren: Michael Allison, Sean Allison, Mary Jackson, Patrick Allison, Sara French, Kimberly Kern, Zachary Allison, Lucas Allison, Marcus Allison, Rebekah Allison, Mattie Allison and Elizabeth Allison; great-grandchildren: Dayde Allison, Xander Allison, Liam Allison, Justin Allison, Keanan Allison, McKenzie Jackson, Teagan Jackson, Sami French, Audrey Kern, Saige Kern, Andrew Kern, Gabe Kern, Maddison Allison, Jaydon Allison and Katie Allison and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; sisters, Margaret and Neva; and her brother, Phil.

To the family of Harriet Allison....A few years ago I was a patient at the Heritage Nursing Home for a short time. Harriet was my "table mate", and I found her to be a very sweet lady. It was a pleasure to know her. You have my sympathy. Gwen Cottingham
