Rosaline Duba Obituary

Rosaline "Rose" (Bohr) Duba, age 99, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, with family members by her side. As a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rose valued most her family and faith in God. A daily-Mass attendee for many years, Rose and her late husband, Edward, had a special devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Rose felt it her mission and responsibility to exemplify and pass on her faith commitment to her children, along with a quiet sense of humor. Always tenderhearted, she was ever mindful of those less fortunate than she. Preceding Rose in death were her husband, Edward E. Duba, infant grandchildren, Jennifer and Paul Kirkwood, brothers, Wilfred, Gerald, Melbourne (Bro. James, CSsR.) Bohr, sisters, Norine Bohr, Joan Madden, Mary Ellen Koelzer, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Surviving Rose are her children, Sharon (Bill) Kirkwood, Edward J. (Margaret) Duba, Mary Chris (Tom) Thrall of Denver, CO, Sandra Duba (special friend, Hank Omiljan), Thomas (Linda) Duba, Michael (Mechele) Duba, Kim (Linda) Duba; 28 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren, by whom she was affectionately known as "Grandma Rose." Also surviving Rose are her sisters, Evelyn Roman, Virginia Le Mire; brother-in-law, William Madden; also numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to thank all of Rose's caregivers at St. Ann's Home and Great Lakes Hospice. The Mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be offered on Friday, January 4, 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Church, 224 Carrier St., Grand Rapids, with Rev. Patrick Grile CSsR. as celebrant, and Rev. Lamar Partin CSsR. as concelebrant. Visitation will take place at O'Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel at 3980 Cascade Road and East Paris on Thursday January 3, from 4-8:00 PM and at the church one hour prior to the Mass on Friday. Please honor Rose's request that anyone planning an expression of sympathy to consider the St. Alphonsus Capital Campaign or a charity of one's choice that serves the disadvantaged.

Stately, saintly, kind, a model on how to live, and the adjectives cannot describe this lady. She, in the words of her late husband, is a saint.
