Richard Riederer Obituary

Riederer, Richard J.

Richard J. Riederer passed away suddenly on Monday, May 19, 2014 at home of natural causes. He was born June 7, 1951 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Joyce Riederer and the late Joseph M. Riederer. He was a graduate of Algoma High School and NWTC. On May 12, 1973 he married Kathy Vandervest in Algoma.

Dick was employed at the Algoma Utilities for the past 38 years as a lineman and was currently General Manager. He enjoyed working in his woods, his tractor collection, and pulling his Oliver 88 at the Brussels, Valmy, and Alaska tractor pulls. He liked following the local school sports, watching the Brewers and Nascar racing. His best times were spent with his children and especially his grandchildren. He was looking forward to retiring and spending more "Papa time" with them.

Dick will be deeply missed by his wife Kathy; their two children and their families Joe and Jenny Riederer and their children Ryan, Justin, and Jenessa of Brownsville MN, Cyndi and Dan Nelson and their daughters Addi and Elli of Walworth, WI. He is also survived by his mother Joyce Riederer; a brother Jim and his wife Pat and their sons families Jon and Caitlyn and son Evan Riederer; Jeff Riederer and special friend Katie; his mother-in-law Lucille Springgate; sister and brother-in-law Jean and John Hilsmann and her daughter Krystal and Dusty Johnson and family; and a brother and sister-in-law Mike and Terri Vandervest and their children Toni Vandervest and son Ezra, and Jay and Dena Vandervest.

Visitation will be held on Saturday May 24, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Algoma, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12 noon with Fr. Bill Swichtenberg officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home of Algoma is assisting the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.wiesnermassart.com.

The family would like to thank many friends and family for all their encouragement and support. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions will be put together in a trust for his grandchildren's education.

Dear Kathy & Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult times. On behalf of all the staff here at the Two Rivers Water & Light please accept our sincere condolences. It is never easy on the ones left behind when things happen unexpectedly. But the good Lord spared Richard any long term suffering which is a blessing in it's self. I will always remember watching our two football teams play in Algoma with Richard. It was a blessing just to have known him and he will be sadly missed.
