RICHARD TENZEL

TENZEL, M.D., RICHARD, passed away May 31, 2011 in Skylake. He was born in Philadelphia on a cold, cold day on January 19, 1929. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Dr. Pauline Tenzel, his beloved wife Shirley of 53 years and son Jack Tenzel, M.D. He is survived by his devoted sister Doris Fleischer and children David Tenzel, M.D. (Dr. Heather Tenzel), Vicki Tenzel Loff (Dr. Howard Loff) and daughter-in-law Haydee Tenzel as well as 6 fantastic grandsons Steven & Phillip Tenzel, Alex & Geoffrey Loff and Paul & Brian Tenzel. He was raised in Nashville, Tenn. a graduate of Vanderbilt University in 1950 and the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1954. He completed his internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1955. He completed his residency at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital in 1956, 1960, U.S. Naval Hospital in 1957, U.S. Naval Academy (Captain) in 1958, and post graduate training at Harvard in 1956. He was honored throughout his brilliant career by American Academy of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology, Medical Advisor for American Society of Ocularists, American Intraocular Implant Society, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest & Best Physicians in America. His academic appointments included Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at University of Miami School of Medicine, Chief of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Past President of America Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Pan American Society of Ophthalmology, New York Academy of Medicine, American College of Surgeons and Royal Society of Medicine. His passion for gaming was second only to his devotion to his profession and his love for his family. His strength of presence and integrity will be missed by all.
