Shirley Mitchell Obituary

Shirley Mitchell
Shirley Mitchell went to be with Jesus on Sept. 14, 2013. She had been on a week-long camping trip starting at O'Dell Lake and ending at Oregon City. She just had her 88th birthday on Sept. 6, 2013.
Shirley was born to Purl and Mary Campbell in 1925 in Mitchell, Neb.
When she was a teenager, she moved to Klamath Falls with her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
She met her future husband, Jack, at Klamath Union High School. When he left and went to war, she went to work at Weyerhaeuser Co. She also worked as a maid at Linkville cabins, where the Favell Museum is now located, and at the Spud Nut shop that was run by the Davenports. She later worked at Frei's Grocery Store, which she and Jack bought, and owned for the next 19 years.
Their retirement was golfing at Round Lake, camping in their trailer and being active at the Methodist Church, where they were members for many years. They were active in the SMART reading program at Fairhaven Elementary School and this became a real joy for the Mitchells.
When Jack passed away 18 months ago, he and Shirley were married for 68 years. She went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Ted Menefee. The three of them rarely missed a Gems baseball game.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Jack and Pam, and son-in law, Ted Menefee; two grandchildren, Tim and Roxanne Menefee; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Justin Menefee and Alexa and Macey Brown; brother, Don Campbell; two sisters, Doris Alley and Sandi Bresee; and many more loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, Purl and Mary Campbell, four brothers, Ralph and Roy, who were twins, and Bill and Dean Campbell.
She has left us with many happy memories and we will miss her smile and her kind words. She was a wonderful mother and friend.
There will be viewing for Shirley on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. in First United Methodist Church at 230 N. 10th St. and then a reception.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements by Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd, directors, now at 2680 Memorial Drive, Klamath Falls, Ore., 541-883-3458.

Always a delight. From school mates' mom to a friend behind the store counter she was fun to be around. I am often reminded of Shirley. Good people.

Shirley will be missed especially by little Zoe. Zoe really enjoyed spending time picking up pine cones while camping at Collier Park. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pam, Ted, and the rest of the family.
