Carl Wipperman Obituary

Carl Samuel Wipperman, was born in Conrad, Montana, June 12, 1926, to Laurent and Louisa Wipperman. He has two sisters, Laura and Gloria, and two brothers, Mahlon and Al. He loved them all very deeply. His parents were farmers, and life was difficult during this time in our history. Carl lost his father in his senior year, and had to leave High School to take over the family farm. Two years later, Carl joined the US Army in 1946. His Stateside assignments were Fort Lewis, WA, Yuma Test Station, AZ, Fort Bliss, TX, and Homestead, FL. He served overseas five years in Germany, three years in Korea, six months in Japan, and two and one-half years in Okinawa. He was stationed with the 24th Infantry Division in Japan, which was the first unit into combat in the Korean War. During this engagement, he earned five battle stars; the Bronze Star, Korean and United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Citation, and others. While serving in Frankfurt, Germany, he met the love of his life, Rosa. Born and raised in Germany, she became a German translator for the Red Cross, and was also a hostess at the USO club on base where they met. They shared a love of square dancing and were inseparable ever since. Their love story lasted 59 years until Rosa's passing at 86 years old. In 1963, they adopted their daughter, Maria, at six months old. They had always looked forward to being parents, and they doted over their baby girl. Carl and Maria had a very special bond that will never be broken. Carl retired from the Army in 1969, as a SFC (E-7). After that, he worked for the Snohomish County Assessor's office, until he retired in 1988. Carl joined American Legion Post 127 in 1969. He was a three term Commander and Post Historian for the past 28 years. He served on the committees for Boys State, Oratorical, Post Newsletter Editor, and Constitution and By-Laws. He served as Department Vice Com-mander from 1978-1988 and Department Historian from 1988-2005. His 17 years as Historian, is considered a landmark. He had the honor of being the National Historian in 1987 and won several National History Book Awards. He cherished the friendships he made over his lifetime with his fellow American Legion members. He was a devoted and proud member of Bothell Post 127 until his final day. A soldier and MY HERO forever. I Love You Dad.

My dear oldest brother Carl. A life lived to the fullest for family and country. Many good memories of our growing up years, but not until after his military retirement did I get to know the real man. I always enjoyed our visits, listening to his many stories and adventures--also a good sense of humor to keep things going. I miss you, Carl. May you rest in peace along with your beloved Ruthie. With love, your sis Laura

Maria,
Sorry for the loss of your father. Your father was a very respected veteran. My father had great respect and spoke of him many times during our growing up years. You and I share not only childhood friendship but the endless love for our fathers. Prayers for you and your family,
