Dear Jozwik Family

We were so sorry to hear about Sigmund. Like many others 35 years ago he and the Polish Eagles played at our wedding. For the last 32 years he has been on of our great neighbors. We always saw him in a good mood and always had a joke to tell (except on election days). He will be missed alot.

To Ernie, Eugene & Carol, Joyce, Allan and the whole Jozwiak family, our deepest sympathies to all of you. Sigmund was a one of a kind, awesome man. We know that he arrived in heaven and his first words to God were "Hey brudda, good mornin'!". Then he pulled out his accordian and is happily playing the "Chappell Hill Special" for all. God bless him and God bless all of you.

November 6, 2009

Sigmund, you have known me all my life.Ernie and I grew up together from bicycles to baseball to cars, to our wedding. Ernie was our Best Man and The Polish Eagles played for our wedding in 1971. Our video had no sound, but watching people dance, we could tell what song you all were playing. By now, we are sure you have already greeted everyone in Heaven with "Good Morning", and now it's time to say Good Night and We will never forget you. Thank You for being a friend and a Wonderful person to one and all. We Love You Ziggy!!!

To the Jozwiak family, Zigmund was so full of life and could bring a smile to everyone. My mother, his cousin Edna, is so saddened to hear of his passing. The Polish Eagles played at my sister Monica's wedding. My husband still laughs when he thinks about Zigmund's jokes and trying to teach him how to pronounce the last name Twardoski. He was one of a kind will be truly be missed, but he has many relatives and friends in heaven who will welcome him home. Janis and Billy Winkler

My prayers and thoughts are with you. Sigmund played at my sister's wedding in 1974 and at mine in 1989. My parents Kie and Harriet Nobra knew him well. I got the opportunity to meet him and my first impression was this man loves life and his jokes! Every time I ran into him he always told me the joke about Santa Claus. He was a hoot! I will miss his warm personality. Rest in Peace Ziggy.

November 6, 2009

Ziggy was a great neighbor. He put the G in greatness for being a great neighbor. He loved his neighbors and always had an interest in helping us keep our yards clean and decorative. He would always assist me in cleaning my yard even though he had heart problems and I would ask him not to help, but he would just continue doing what he loved to do. He was consistent in bringing our garbage cans in from the street once the garbage men emptied them. This box is not large enough to tell of his deeds. I pray that the family will be comforted during this season.

Your neighbor, Sandra Craft

My sympathies to the Joswiak family. I will always remember Sigmund from playing with the Polish Eagles at weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and Bazaars. I know he will be missed by all, especially friends at the Rose Garden. He always had a friendly smile on his face and was loved by everyone.

Zeke was such a joy to felllowship with at St. Anne de Beaupre on Sunday mornings. We always looked for his warm and friendly smile. He always talked about his wife and family, his love of music, and his wood carvings. Zeke always had a good Aggie joke for me as well.
My family and I will miss Zeke tremendously, but his home now is in heaven with Jesus.

To The Jozwiak Family:

Mr. J. (as we called him at church) will be missed deeply especially in the Polish Community. He was proud of his POLISH HERITAGE.

I did not know about Mr. J. til my husband died 8 years ago. He came to the wake and talked about how him and my husband (Jim) played dominoes at the Rose Garden. He was truly an exceptional person.

He made a POLISH STEP STOOL for my granddaughter and she cherishes it very much.

We will miss him deeply at our church.

Make God comfort you in this time of loss.

I can see him playing dominoes with my husband.

Aunt Clara, Ernie, Eugene, Alan and Joyce, My heart is so heavy now and broken for our great loss of Uncle Sigmund. He was such a trasure in my family's life. I can't imagine the next party with out him and his beautiful music and good cheer he brings to me. No one will ever be able to sing " All day all night Mary Ann" the way he sang it to me all my years. I felt as if when he sang that song he was singing directly to me, and no matter where or when I hear it I will allways picture him and hear him singing to me. As you all know he had picked all my pecans for years and wake me up very early to tell me he was in my yard, pecan season will never be the same. I could go on and on with memories of this wonderful man I was blessed to say was my Great Uncle,he will forever be in my heart for he is the reason for music being in my heart. My family will never forget him and I will cherish his memory forever in my heart.

Uncle Sigmund, life will go on but will never be the same with out you. I Love you.

To the entire Jozwiak family, My husband and I will truly miss Sigmund at St. Anne de Beaupre Church. I have been in the parish for over forty years and he was one of the first persons I met. He was always kind, cheerful and friendly with everyone. He sat in the same pew on Sundays and made sure he was present for the recitation of the Rosary. Sigmund did not hesitate to join in the singing. He had a story to tell about me, asking him if he wanted "DIRTY RICE" on his dinner plate at one of our Bazaars; and his reply was, "NO I want "CLEAN RICE". He always had a funny story to tell. God bless each of you. May his soul rest in peace.

What a giant loss in the Polish community! We were saddened to hear of the passing of Sigmund. He and the Polish Eagles played at our wedding in 1974. Sigmund was so proud of his heritage and was always there promoting Chappell Hill, St. Stanislaus bazaars, and all the culture surrounding it. We will miss his jolly sense of humor and his wonderful brand of music that was so dearly loved. His accordian may be silenced now, but cherished memories will live on. God Bless you Sigmund Jozwiak.

To MeMe, Ernie, Eugene, Alan, Joyce and the entire family.
Uncle Ziggy will be truly missed by all. I will always remember growing up and listening to the Polish Eagles play at every wedding or event we all went to. I am also very proud to say he was my Great Uncle. He would always put smiles on everyone's face with his jokes and his great since of humor. I am so glad that he played his accordion at Amber and Nora's graduation party, it meant the world to me, and I know it meant more to the girls because they both loved him very much and would always call him JaJa Sigmund. I know he is now in heaven with all the family that has passed on and playing his accordion for them, and also telling them GOOD MORNING no matter what time it is in heaven. When I look at my bench, and also my bird house I will always think of Uncle Sigmund and the good times we shared, and the good things he has done for everyone. God Bless you Uncle Sigmund, and tell everyone in God's hands now GOOD MORNING from all of us down here.

Sincerely,

Sigmund Jozwiak Family:

There is no doubt that Sigmund was an Icon in Texas Polish history! He was loved and will be missed, but it is up to us to remember the legacy that he has made for Polish Texans and celebrate the impact he has made on each of us. I personally know that he loved seeing all of us get together and celebrate our Polish culture and heritage. He knew that our music and customs, of which he help preserve, would be safe and passed down to another generation for others to enjoy. Also, I am so thankful that he was able to sing at my oldest daughter's (Kathy Ann )wedding reception last year and that we have this on tape. Sigmund and I sang together during the unveiling of the bride ceremony and we sang in Polish "yesterday she was a maiden and today she becomes a woman". In addition, he played and sang at Kathy and my wedding 32 years ago and my parents wedding over 55 years ago. All of the Texas Polish songs that I play today are songs that I learned listening to Sigmund and the Polish Eagles play live over the years ( at weddings and parties ) and on the Polish Eagles tapes that I have. When I play and sing in Polish, it is because of Sigmund that I have this gift to give. He has passed his music and lyrics down to another generation and when I play, this is a tribute to him and the Polish treasure that he has help preserve. There is no question, that we have lost a true hero and treasure within our Polish Culture. He was our Patriarch!

I am so blessed to have know him and call him one of my mentors. He told me last year ( at Uncle Henry's birthday party ) that he sat at my JaJa's ( Steve Mazurkiewicz ) knee and watched Steve play the accordion when he was a little boy at Polish weddings and this inspired him to learn to play the accordion. Until that night, I did not know this. I told him that I too sat at his knee ( Uncle Sigmund ) growing up at Polish weddings and that he inspired me to learn to play and keep the Polish music alive for the next generations to come. I have a picture of the two of us playing together last year and I will always cherish that night.

Uncle Sigmund was my Great Uncle. My dad's mother Francis was a Jozwiak from home and Sigmund's older sister. There were 14 kids in that family and Sigmund was #14 and my Boosha was #3. Sigmund would be my children's Great Great Uncle. In addition, Sigmund was the last of the first generation Polish Texans to be born in this country. Both of his parents were born in Poland ( Slawno and Poznan, Poland ) and that makes me the third generation to be born in the U.S. This summer my uncle Henry, my son James, and my youngest daughter Stephanie had the opportunity to go to Poland and visit the churches and villages of Sigmund's parents and grandparents. This was certainly a moving and life changing experience. Throughout the trip, uncle Sigmund was in our hearts and thoughts as we listened to the music and lyrics of our Polish heritage. Sigmund was no doubt an inspiration to me and my family and his memory will live on forever in each of us that he touched. I have had the opportunity to meet and know many influential people in my life, but it was a privilege and honor to have know him and call him one of my heros. Uncle Sigmund made a large and lasting impression on me and I will always cherish his memory.

God Bless Sigmund and his family!

Ziggy, as my father so fondly called his friend, will be greatly missed. He was a great historian. He was the keeper of the knowledge (and names) and always had a great story or joke to share. My fondest memory of him was when I first began to learn the fiddle and the Polish Eagles were playing for my first try at playing -- well - my timing was off among other things but Sigmund walked over with his accordion and said "you can do it just relax and follow me". A great man leaving a great legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God give you strength to ensure your loss.

Sigmund will be sorely missed by all. He was one of the kindest, funniest and real people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I truly feel he has been a blessing to me and I feel sure that everyone who knows him feels the same. He played for my wedding in 1965 and I feel that at that time God sent a truly fine friend into my life. My prayers are with his family, know that he is entertaining the Saints with his humor and funny stories.
