Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of James J. Holtom US Army Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Oh Jim, we miss you so. The last time you were home you helped Dad finish the shop. He was so proud of the man you had become; you knew more about construction than he did, and you were telling him what to do. It's a great memory for him. It was too painful for a long time for him to work out there, but he recently finished building a truck, the "Orange Blossom Special." You would love it. Just like one of your models that I have boxed up in the garage, the ones you did when you were 13 or 14. Only it's a lot bigger! Love you, Son. We miss you so so much.

Jim, I miss you. I have been thinking about you so much lately( as always) This week was the last time I saw you. I rememeber the park we went to. All your family Mel and I. We threw around the football and had a picnic. I have pictures from that day, from the ones I took of you and then ones of the family and the one of all you kids making a perimid. I was looking forward to many more outings like that. Mel and I talked about how one day when we were all married how we would leave the kids with you guys and us chicks would go shopping. I still just don't want to believe it. i was supposed to make you a big sign and get a t-shirt made for when you were coming home ... this month. I still drive by the park and think that was the last time I hung out with you. It's hard to drive by that park. I do but I just try not to remeber. Because I still want to believe you will be coming home. I miss emailing you. I was looking over the emails I send you. I used to keep you updated on how BSU and the Pakcers were doing! Someone needed to keep you updated! Remeber that night a couple of us were leaving the bowling ally and we were talking about being 21..... and ha ha yah we were being crazy. Remeber playing the couch game and you guys always won! You cheated though! You guys used your cell phones! Memeber going over to Mel's and watching princess bride and the 3 of us colored? ha ha... everyone was making fun fo you that you colored with the girls. ha ha... That was fun! .......I miss you

To the family of Sgt. James Holtom,
I am the aunt of Capt. Jennifer Harris, however she was more like my daughter. Her mom has M.S. and her Uncle and I took on the role of her "parents" from the time she entered middle school.
I was so happy to see an entry in her Legacy book by Jim's dad. I know there are no words to completely take away your pain, but I hope these words of thanks and praise help to ease your pain just a little. We had learned that several Army soldiers died trying to retreive Jen and her crew and the aircraft....and it broke our hearts once again. After reading about Jim, he was the male version of Jen....and her crew was much the same. I'm sure that Jen and Jared and Travis and Thomas and James and Gilbert and Manny were there in Heaven to greet Jim and his fellow soldiers with open arms....and hugs of thanks for helping to bring them home to their families so they all could be laid to rest...and what they accomplished in their short lives could be celebrated. Jim is a hero to many, especially our family. We will always remember what he did with grateful hearts. May God bless you all and bring you comfort and peace.
Most sincerely,
David Holtom

All the emotions come flowing back, reading these posts. To all that have written, THANK YOU. Some names are familiar, but I'm gratefull for all of them.
Jim was a dad's perfect eldest son. I often considered him beyond my own maturity..at such a young age. He was self reliant, honest, confident, independant of trends and peer pressure, strong, friendly, handsome, caring, faithful, (he continued giving to missions through our local church even after leaving home) a help and support to his brothers, loved his mom, he was a leader and he loved God - I have his Bible now - it's wore out. He didnt just carry it - he used it. He loved soldiering. He loved the stories I taught him from out of Joshua and Samuel, the Kings
I find myself so missing him. The tears come so easily when I think of him not coming home. He rests now.
He was a great guy. I'm so proud of him. He worked for me during his young years and made such an impression on the other people he worked with. They counted on him to know everything, answer all thier questions.
We have a long life ahead of us and it seems hard to think of all the years we have to wait..but maybe it wont be that long? I'm so thankful for the hope that I have in Christ. It means more to me now than ANYTHING.
Lord, thank you for your promises, your encouragements, your fellowship, for your sufferings, your wisdom, patience, for the dreams of Jim you send my way to give me a little cheer. Thank you for my children and my precious wife. Lord please comfort her and hold her by your strong, gentle hand. Thank you for Jim. He was the best.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Wow - I just read through the entries in this book, and I was moved to tears. To the Holtom family, and Mel... we are praying for you. I can't imagine what you're going through. The rest of us tend to just move on with our lives, and yet, you are all faced with your loss every day. We knew Jim through church and his work in the bus ministry. What a great man Jim was... We are so thankful for his willingness to serve his country and ultimately give his life for it. Where would this country be without soldiers who were willing to give it all? Thank God we know we will see Jim again in heaven because we know he had trusted Christ as his personal Saviour. To family and friends... we will continue to pray that God will give you the strength you need to face each day without Jim.

Nicholas Brown was in 2/7 Cav of 1st Cavalry Division. He left behind a young wife and a newborn son. Their life verse was Joshua 1:9. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go". Nick is now in service to his beloved Savior. I count it such a priviledge to have known Jim and his wonderful family. Even though we haven't seen you for many years, there are so many fond memories of church and bible study and of our kids playing together when they were little. What an incredible blessing to know that Jim is with the Lord now and forevermore. I was so touched by something Tony Dunge wrote about the death of his son, and I'd like to share it and hope that it ministers to you.
When asked how he was able to recover, he replied that it was because of something that one of his good Christian friends said to him after the funeral. "He said, 'You know James accepted Christ into his heart, so you know he's in heaven, right?' I said, 'Right, I know that.' He said, 'So, with all you know about heaven, if you had the power to bring him back now, would you?' When I thought about it, I said, 'No, I wouldn't. I would not want him back with what I know about heaven.'"
Anyone who knew Jim and your family, knows that Jim is with Jesus now. And we know that we will be together soon! May God hold you in His arms, comfort you, and bring you His peace.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Jim will always be remembered...I met Jim only once in 2006 when i finally got to meet some of my dearest friends in the States. I remember we played games one night, "Mafia" was one of them that i remember. Jim struck me, on first impression as a quiet soul, but one who also had a good head on his shoulders. Very level headed, and he knew how to have fun, and knew when to be serious. I didnt know at the time that he and Mel were a couple... hehe So it was interesting to see the little "looks" and what not between them. :-) So cute. They were both having so much fun!
I know that times are hard, but when you have Christ on your side, you count it a blessing and a privilege to go through these trials, for they serve a purpose in the making. To make us stronger, and to let us know that the good Lord will never leave us nor forsake us.
To Jim's family, and Mel. You have so much to be thankful for, for such a young life lived with such great honour, and sacrifice. To have known a life that was lived with such great a testimony for Christ. I salute him. He truly is a Hero. :-) Praise the Lord for the comfort that we all have in knowing certainly that we will see Jim again when we cross over onto that "Happy Golden shore, where the faithful part no more!" :-) I count it a blessing to have known of Jim and have met him once if even only for a brief moment. All soldiers, no matter what country they are from deserve our honour. They truly are heroes that will never be forgotten.
The Lord be with you all, and may you hold onto memories, for memories are what keep you going.
Remember, "Till we meet again!"
"Some people come into our lives
and leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never ever the same..."

JIM IS MY HERO!
I remember we had friends over playing games and everyone had left but Jim,Mel, and Ben. There's a game called missionary manners that we like to play. It can get pretty violent which it did between Jim, Ben and my Brother it turned into an arm wrestling match. Jim liked to play that game, so before he left I bought him some of the games we enjoyed playing with all our friends. ~ To the Holtom family and Mel: I love ya guys so much and you're always in my thoughts and prayers! It's awesome that 4 guys have already been saved through this. God is good! Thank God we will see him again!

I am so sad to learn of your loss. I am related by marriage to Capt. Jennifer Harris whose Sea Knight helicopter was shot down on Feb. 7. Her funeral 2 days ago was the most powerful and heartbreaking event that I've ever been part of. I understand that James helped to recover her body before he was killed. We are eternally grateful for the bravery of your loved one and pray that we all find peace and strength within to lead us through these most difficult times.

Today Jim was honored as the hero, son, brother, friend, soldier, soon to be husband, and Christian that he was. Our thoughts & prayer are with the family, friends, & Mel as they grieve the loss of someone taken so suddenly from them. "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things that are not seen are eternal." Although we do not understand why God needed Jim so soon we can understand that these things come to pass to help us be "Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ." I say, even so, come quickly Lord.

Heaven's Call
Heaven called and you were taken
So young to go, to young to know
The call of heaven did not wait
Your time here a short stay
You were called away
To be part of God’s everlasting garden
Borrowed seed from the Master
A small little bud that graced us with your beauty
Now returned upon heaven’s call
A finely chosen rose
Taken before it bloomed
Before your beauty had time to unfold
He is the Gardner and you his prize winning bud
Perhaps He seen a storm that you could not with stand
So he picked you before the wind would fall
The memories forever etched in our hearts
Our little bud now blooms
With the angels up on high

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
