Gilbert Bloom Obituary

Gilbert P. Bloom
IDAHO FALLS - Gilbert P. Bloom, 90 of Idaho Falls, died January 14, 2010, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born July 30, 1919, in Orofino, Idaho, the son of Edward and Catherine Green Bloom. He spent his earlier years and attended school in Lewiston, Idaho.
He served in the SeaBees (Construction Battalions (CBs)) of the United States Navy. He was stationed in Finschafen (Finschaven), New Guinea during World War II.  The SeaBees best-known unofficial motto is the simple phrase "Can Do." That saying and his kindness best describe him.
He married his wife, Della, in Boise Idaho. They have three sons, Carlos (Charlie), Clyde, and Robert and two daughters, Cathy and Gayle.
He was a police officer in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Boise, Idaho. In 1974, he retired from the Idaho Public Commission, where he was in charge of regulating trucks for the State of Idaho. He also provided for his family by working multiple part-time jobs in his spare time.
He was a 32 Degree Mason, a Shriner, and a longtime member of the Elks Club, Eagles, and the Eastern Star. He loved to fish, play poker, and spend time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Della; and his children, Carlos J. Marquez (Sherrie) of Boise, Clyde D. Marquez (Natricia) of Idaho Falls, Robert G. Bloom (Lannie) of Pocatello, Cathy J. Barnard (Corey) of Rexburg, and Gayle A. Arrowood (Mark) of Pocatello; grandchildren, Anthony G. Marquez (Anne Marie), Selena C. Marquez, Dylan G. Marquez, Angela V. Marquez, Matthew M. G.
