Geneva M. Matthews, was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 10, 1929. At the age of 16 she married Charlie Armstrong and came to California in 1952 where she later married Vernon Lee Matthews.
Geneva Matthews passed away September 9, 2010 of natural causes. She was a loving mother and loved to be around her family and friends, everyone who knew her loved her. One of her favorite things to do was gardening and she had some of the prettiest rose bushes around. She also loved dancing and fishing and BBQ with family and friends.
Geneva was preceded in death by her father James Franklin Miller; mother, Elzora Miller; brothers Dorsey, Douglas, and James C. Miller; and sisters, Fay, Bea, Mary, and Selma; grandson, David Alan Schlander; son, Charles Craig Armstrong; 1st husband, Charlie Henry Armstrong; son-in-law, Valentin Kern, and daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Armstrong.
Geneva is survived by her brother, Franklin Miller; husband, Vernon Lee Matthews; daughters, Sandra Schlander, Nona Kern, Deborah Cockerill, and Pauline Whitmore; sons, Stanley Armstrong, Vernon E. Matthews, Vernon Lee Matthews Jr.; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie; sisters-in-law, sons-in-laws, nieces, nephews, 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchil- dren, 2 great-great- grandchildren.
A private viewing was held on Saturday September 11, 2010 at Frye Mortuary. Following the viewing everyone gathered for a celebrations of Geneva's life.
We are very grateful to Dr. Reisin for all that he has done for our Mother. A special thank you to the Gentiva Nurses, Marilyn La Beffe and Keri Valdez. You were a great support to all of us, and we could not have gotten through these past few months without you!
We all miss you and love you dearly Mom you will be in our hearts forever. We know you are showing the angels a few new dancing steps. Angel kisses to you Mom until we meet again. Love all your children family and friends.
